An unexpected turn of events

So, you may or may not recall my mentioning some time ago my having joined an online roleplaying game here on LiveJournal, which I had nothing but good things to say about. There have, since then, been some interesting developments on that front.

Specifically, I seem to be running the storytelling side of that game now.

This past summer, the ( Read more... )

Do let me know what you think. In some senses, there's not a lot to see right now, just due to the decay and neglect it's suffered, but I'm working on it. Part of the problem I'm having is that I want to run these stories which will MAKE the game more interesting, but need more players to be actively involved in order to get that to take place. It's a little bit of a catch-22, really.

Anyway. Hope you'll be into it.

I would be, but alas my workload in summer is severe, and I'm already involved in other games as GM and player :/ Looks fascinating, however

Is this is the same one where you wanted me to be Lex Luthor?

Because I'll totally join if you still want me, after this hell-semester.

I think it is; I've only spoken of the two of them so far. One way or the other, I do think a character like that - any version of him - could be an interesting addition. There was someone playing Tony Stark (the movie version, who, though cool, is necessarily less interesting than the comics version, obviously), and so it is a sort of character the game has accommodated before.

Have you ever read DC's short-lived but awesome comedy/action series "Major Bummer"? I'm also playing the protagonist from that, Lou Martin, who Luthor would find equally fascinating and disgusting, I think. :)

I never have read that.

Also, I might be interested in playing Damian Wayne, if that's cool?

I view that as an AWESOME idea. I have a friend who's thinking of applying as the DCU Joker, and this could make it even better.

Damien is a great character (fuck the haters!), and his approach to life is one that I think will make this an interesting experience for him.

And hey, there's nothing saying you can't play more than one character if you should feel so motivated.

I am seriously kicking around a Wicked Witch of the West character... and by seriously, I mean in my commute to and from work since that's the only time I have to think this semester. I graduate December 18, and there are no prospects for a music teacher at the mid year point, so I will probably show up at some point around the solstice.

I'll say now what I said then: FLYING MONKEYS.

I know! I'm tempted. Like I said, look for me in late December!

Hey, there!

Since late December has come and gone, without word from you, I figured I might as well drop you a line and see what's up. Does your interest persist?

Glad you came along. You've certainly brought in some very interesting characters who have really livened up the game! :-)

(And to everyone else here - it would be great to have some more!)

Well, to my mind, all roleplaying games are fundamentally acts of collaborative fiction. Whether you're a player or the person running it, your job is to make things interesting for the other players as well as yourself, and generate story. I'm glad to know I'm pulling that off in both capacities. :)

I'm interested... but I'm not sure if I'm a viable candidate.

Firstly, my roleplaying experience is strictly pen-and paper. I'm not sure of the conventions of online collaborative fiction style roleplaying. I don't really have the time to in-depth study and mimic, so I would need some sort of primer.

Along those lines: what are the time requirements and how does timing work? Realistically, I could only put in 3-5 hours a week on something like this, 2 or maybe 3 times a week.

There's a lot of introductory material on the game's page, but it all seems to assume a base familiarity with the metarules of online roleplay.

Is this game accessible to a neophyte with a limited time window?

Hey, sorry it's taken me a day and change to respond. Been sleeping poorly of late, which has been leeching me of my precious verbosity ( ... )

Thanks for the input.
After giving it a lot of thought, I'm going to pass. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I just don't have the time to give it the attention that I would want to. Sorry, hope you find some other takers.
