Tim had to go in for emergency surgery this afternoon/ evening. The polyps that he had were pretty good sized, and the doc had to really dig down to get them out by the roots, so to speak. Well, it left a spot too thin in the bowel wall, and when he brought in some firewood it caused pressure and a hole popped through the wall of the bowel. He started running a fever all of a sudden and when it hit 102 I called the doc. He said to the ER immediately. A CT scan showed a problem and in to surgery he went.
Thankfully, the surgeon was right in the hospital when Tim came in and he canceled what he was about to do and take Tim. A few hours later (with me climbing the walls) he was out; they were able to do it laprascopically, so he has three small incisions in his belly. One has a drain in it. He can't even have water yet. They are running three different kinds of antibiotics IV because a bowel perforation is so dangerous. And a blood thinner I just got home. Hopefully tomorrow he can start on clear fluids, and the Foley can come out (that's only in because they don't want him out of bed yet)
But all that's good, because they weren't sure going in if they'd have to cut him open and do a complete bowel resection. Which is still on the table, if the biopsies show cancer. We won't know that for probably a week.
So, that was how our day went.
