Hm. Don't even have a userpic for my wife and I together anymore. Shame, I always liked the userpics but still can't see the point in paying for lj anymore.
ANYWAY, this weekend was about the Paralympics. Athletics on Friday evening and wheelchair basketball all day Saturday. The atmosphere was great at both events, and I'm glad I got to see the inside of the Stadium with the cauldron. All my friends are transfixed. I love that the events have been pretty much a sellout. It has been a truly great summer for London. I'm feeling the lack of a summer vacation somewhere, but if you have to stay around and not have a week off, this was the year to do it. My wife and I have made the most of it.
Obviously if we have a half day and need to go through town, we stop for lunch somewhere nice. As luck would have it, my most anticipated restaurant opening of the summer -- which has been delayed by months -- had opened just last week. Hotdogs and Champagne it is then! Expensive, yes. Wanky, jesus yes. But loved it. Excellent wines. OH, and on the way home Saturday we ended up at Gaucho, which is always good. Love me some skirt, and again, nice wine. Sexy inside, too.
By the time we got home Saturday, we felt like a bit of a kitchen party, just the two of us, which was enjoyed. Seeing out the summer.
Speaking of summer, it feels over. Kids going back to school. Office is back to being full. The weather feels like it has changed for the duration now. Even Friday was that brilliant combination of bright and sunny with a chill in the air. Autumn weather. I'm back in a suit and tie today, which I've avoided all but one day in August. I need to work out a way to dress nicely and still ride my bike over the next few months. Though if I don't lose close to 10 lbs I may as well buy new clothes anyway.
Yesterday we were meant to go to a mate's kid's birthday party. We haven't seen them in a very long time so felt slightly guilty we had to skip it, but we just weren't up to it. Which reminds me, I need to look for a date to meet up with them or we may be defriended forever.
So we spent the day alternately lazing and getting ready for the week. I did manage to make some quite nice lamb kebabs. Skewered on rosemary from the garden, marinated in garlic, lemon, rosemary, and olive oil. Grilled over an open hot fire. Served on flatbread and homemade tzatiki (got the balance right this time- loads of cuke, a bit of mint, about a clove of fresh garlic, about half a lemon, and a couple glugs of nice olive oil). Made eggplant parma as a side dish, which also seemed to work better this time around.
So now, back to the grind.
