The choice was a simple matter for the shinigami. 'Home' as it were, was the only option the captain needed. The Soul Society needed him. He needed to be there when Hinamori awoke. And Aizen...

The boy's features darkened at the thought of the ex-captain. A war was going to begin, and he needed to be there.

Hitsugaya knew few here personally as he'd ended up keeping much to himself, and hadn't really made a great deal of friends. There would be few farewells for him, but to any who passed by and gave him a glance, a nod would be given.

Harry had sought out the captain. It was possible that without Hitsugaya's help, none of them would have made it, and he wanted to say goodbye to the not so young man who had earned his respect.

"So, what's waiting for you, back home?"

The familiar voice made Hitsugaya's head turn. A faint smile appeared then just as quickly disappeared. A grimness fell over the captain, as he looked away.

"War."

Harry nodded, his own face grim.

"Same. War and an enemy I can't find." He was silent for a moment, then shrugged. "But we'll win. I just have to remember what I learned here, that even the strongest enemy can be beaten if you do something they never thought you would."

There was no choice as far as Auron was concerned. There were promises left for him to keep.

He'd been waiting for this moment since he had arrived, but he hadn't expected this world to leave as much of a mark on him as they had. He had made and lost a friend. He had fought with a skilled comrade in battle. He had met a young girl with boundless energy, a strange obsession with him, and yet, a good heart.

The unsent laughed quietly, humorlessly. There was nothing to be done for it.

Except...

The guardian's hand went to his waist, unclasping the jug at his side. He raised it, not too high, and took a short drink.

For the fallen.

Naturally, Maya didn't ask before she came up behind Auron and threw her arms around him.

"Mr. Auron!" she said brightly, though there were tears welling up in her eyes and it was a little obvious in her voice. "I'm really glad you're okay! Then again, of course you'd be okay, you're pretty much the coolest guy here and probably the best fighter... so I really wasn't worried at all. But I'm glad you're okay anyway!"

Auron stiffened at the sudden hug. He should have expected her to show up. He supposed it would have felt... strange if she didn't.

"You give me too much credit," he replied, though there was the barest hint of a smirk on his face.

"Nah," she replied. "I remember when you saved my life all those times. You're definitely the coolest guy here, even though I know I'll never get you to say so."

Maya's tears were becoming a little more obvious now. "You're going back to your home, aren't you, Mr. Auron?" she asked. "So am I. So I can see my sister again. But if it weren't for you I wouldn't even be here to be going home, so..."

A tear rolled down her face, though she smiled. "Thank you for everything, Mr. Auron. And don't worry, your secret's still safe with me."

This was it. This was.

Six months. This was six months. How much had he been through? More than he ever could have... more than he could have ever thought he would survive. More than he ever would have thought he could have experienced. Things he'd never known. Fears, worries, friendships, magics. Plots and ploys, dangers and mysteries. Things broken. Things fixed. Some of them things he hadn't known had been broken.

He wasn't wearing his suit, or his glasses. Some random set that he'd needed. His headphones had gotten a few scuffs and marks, but they were still his. And the person coming back... it wasn't the Spin who had come in. But he was still himself, right? Who knew what the result would be, but it had happened.

It's something unpredictable
But in the end was right
I hope you had the time of your life.

There was nothing else left for it, now. This was the final steps. The last goodbyes. This was the endgame.

"Been a long road, hasn't it," Harry remarked. It was funny, now that he stood near Spin, with all the violence and pain finally fading away, he almost felt like he could hear a little tune to.

It was probably just the wind though.

Probably.

"A long and winding road," Spin replied, distant. "Where we're going we don't really know, but the road is calling. This road is fuckin' hard." He laughed faintly. "Highways and dance halls, a good song takes you far."

He finally turned to give Harry a small smile. "It's weird. You'd think a person gets used to this kind of thing after a while, wouldn't you?"

"Hard roads are the ones worth traveling down," Harry replied with a small grin, and then he added, " Pretty soon we'll be saying 'Look out pretty mama
I'm on the road again.'"

"Spin, you only get used to this sort of thing when you're dead. Change is what makes it life." He shrugged. "But just because it's changing, doesn't mean it's ending."

[Riza and Harry] hawkeye_shooter October 3 2009, 06:47:06 UTC
Riza was deeply lost in thought. So this was it? They had fought so hard for an ending like this. She supposed she should be happy on some level. They could get them back home at approximately when they left. She could finally finish the work she had started with Roy back in Amestris ( ... )

When Harry found her, he didn't say anything at first, because there was nothing he could say.

He knew, he knew she couldn't abandon her world, any more than he could abandon his, but he also knew he couldn't live his life anymore without her and their baby. It just wasn't possible.

That's why he was doing what he always did, he was finding a third option.

For now, though he was content to take her into his arms and hold her close, his own tears merging with hers.

"I'm not going to lose you."

She was so lost that she didn't even realize that Harry was there until she was wrapped up in his arms. She took in his scent and closed her eyes to the rest of the world. It was them, it was always just them. Riza was glad she didn't sob or anything, crying was bad enough.

Riza never wanted to let go of this moment. However, she knew she couldn't be weak. She had to be strong for herself, Harry, and their child. Riza had to steal herself.

"Good. I wouldn't accept it any other way," she said, voice low enough so that only Harry could hear.

He held her close and buried his face in her hair, wrapping his arms around her. He wanted to memorize the warmth of her in his arms enough to last him the long cold months to come.

"I have contacts," he said, half to himself. "The Gatekeeper, the Fairy Queens, some other assorted organizations and individuals. They all owe me favors, and I'm going to collect. I'll get all the information I can from here on your coordinates, and I will find you. More, I'll do it before our child's birth."

His hand found her stomach. "I'll see her enter the world."

Sora and KH crew - OPEN TO ANYONE optimistickey October 3 2009, 06:54:15 UTC
It had been a long, exhausting, unbelievable past few days. Having Tagruato capture them all, thinking hope was lost, finding it again, getting their powers back, taking down Tagruato, even using the monsters against them. And now...now their journey home. This time, for real.

Sora wondered if the Islands would be just the way he remembered them.

This world had changed him in so many ways that he'd never expected. He'd met so many people, so many that had grown close to his heart. It felt...full, of people, of thoughts, and hopes and worries and plans. He'd grown up, but not lost himself.

Through this mess of thoughts that filled his heart to overflowing, he did latch onto one thought: I'll use the gummi ship and find everyone again. We won't forget each other.

The exact moment in time. Why did it have to be the exact moment? He was tired of fighting and he just wanted to go home and relax with his friends. And he certainly didn't want the first person he saw when he got home to be Sephiroth.

And what was he going to tell Aerith? How could he tell her that she'd have to wait for him again? She would already have to wait if she was going to an earlier point in time than he was, he didn't want to prolong it.

While he was mulling over all this he saw a familiar head of spikey brown hair.

"Hey, Sora..."

"Hey Cloud," Sora responded. He looked up to the massive DRT, then back to his friend. He wasn't wearing his crown necklace anymore, but Roxas's cross charm dangled from his shirt collar. "You ready to go back?" Cloud seemed to be bothered about something, but Sora didn't remember Cloud ever telling him what point in time he'd come from. Sora had just been happy to see him again.

Kairi had been handing out hugs like it was a promotional stunt. She told comrades congratulations and talked about what they did. But underneath it all was the sad chord of knowing it was the last discussion they'd ever have. Eventually she came to Sora and Cloud, a smile smile on her face.

"Sora! Cloud!" Kairi took Sora by the hand, pausing at the pendant hanging from his shirt. She looked up at Sora, wondering what it meant. She had a good guess.
