This was it. This was.

Six months. This was six months. How much had he been through? More than he ever could have... more than he could have ever thought he would survive. More than he ever would have thought he could have experienced. Things he'd never known. Fears, worries, friendships, magics. Plots and ploys, dangers and mysteries. Things broken. Things fixed. Some of them things he hadn't known had been broken.

He wasn't wearing his suit, or his glasses. Some random set that he'd needed. His headphones had gotten a few scuffs and marks, but they were still his. And the person coming back... it wasn't the Spin who had come in. But he was still himself, right? Who knew what the result would be, but it had happened.

It's something unpredictable
But in the end was right
I hope you had the time of your life.

There was nothing else left for it, now. This was the final steps. The last goodbyes. This was the endgame.

"Been a long road, hasn't it," Harry remarked. It was funny, now that he stood near Spin, with all the violence and pain finally fading away, he almost felt like he could hear a little tune to.

It was probably just the wind though.

Probably.

"A long and winding road," Spin replied, distant. "Where we're going we don't really know, but the road is calling. This road is fuckin' hard." He laughed faintly. "Highways and dance halls, a good song takes you far."

He finally turned to give Harry a small smile. "It's weird. You'd think a person gets used to this kind of thing after a while, wouldn't you?"

"Hard roads are the ones worth traveling down," Harry replied with a small grin, and then he added, " Pretty soon we'll be saying 'Look out pretty mama
I'm on the road again.'"

"Spin, you only get used to this sort of thing when you're dead. Change is what makes it life." He shrugged. "But just because it's changing, doesn't mean it's ending."

"Changes..." Spin murmured, before laughing. "Turn and face the strange, huh?" He shook his head. "Time may change us, but we can't trace time."

He gave a long sigh. A sigh of relief, a sigh of weight being lifted... not all of it, by any means. But some. Enough, for now. Spin gave Harry a look, up and down, thinking of the whole thing. How hard the nutter had worked. And how much had gotten done because of it. "Sinatra on a star, man. I don't know how you pulled it off, but. It's 'cause of you." The next word felt inadequate, but it was all there was to be said. "Thanks."

He felt an old, familiar shape pressing against his chest, hidden under the jacket. It had been a long time since he'd felt it there. It had been away from him, so long, and maybe now that he had it back he just wanted to show it off a little. "Think I can ask you for one last favor?"

Harry smiled and shrugged modestly. "I did what needed to be done. I wouldn't have made it through the first week without others to help me. That's what we showed here, more than anything else. We showed what you can truly do when everyone pulls together."

He shook his head at the thanks. "I should be thanking you. You saved my life what, three times?"

Turning to face the other man, the wizard smiled down, soft and genuine, and answered, "For you music man? Anything."

Spin shook his head. "Ain't it the truth," he muttered, pulling the small black card case from his jacket. "If there's one thing I've figured out in the time I've been an Agent, it's that almost anything is possible if you've got someone at your back." He flipped the case open, to look at his badge. "With the right people playing backup, it can almost seem easy."

He looked back up to Harry. "At this rate, I'm sure you're sick of keeping things hidden, and heck, it's probably not an issue with the whole dimension thing...but if anyone asks you about a secret agency of spirit cheerleaders, could you tell 'em you don't know anything?" Spin shrugged. "I mean, a group like that, they'd probably just die of embarrassment if anyone saw them prancing around like idiots."

Harry leaned in and checked out the badge, his eyebrows raising as he grinned. "Well, it's good to know that when people need backup, the professionals are on the job."

Shrugging as he straightened, Harry flashed Spin a wink. "Hey, what's one more, especially if it's for a good cause? Though to tell the truth, considering I'm listed in the phonebook under W, for Wizards, I don't think many people would even believe me if I told them." His grin widened, "You know, all that time I wasted failing to get on the high school football team, who knew the cheerleaders were where the real action was at."

Spin lifted his chin and flashed his smile, tucking the badge away. "'Sright, they're not just there for show. Takes a special ear to get it just right, but there's one thing any ol' person can tell you; it's important to find your rhythm when you wanna get something done right.

"Just keep that in mind, if you ever need a boost. Not sure if some alternate squad'll be there, but there's no harm in calling for help if you're overwhelmed." The young Agent quirked a brow. "And considering who I'm talking to, a special Chicago base might need to get set up."

"Taking whistle while you work to it's logical conclusion," Harry remarked with a nod. After all, one thing he knew about magic was that it came from life, and not all magic was the kind used by wizards. The ability to stir a heart or excite a pulse was a magic all its own.

Spin's little crack earned him a laugh, and shaking his head the wizard replied, "That might be a good idea, though if you do make it you might want to make sure the building's up to fire code." Smiling, he added, "I'll remember, and the same goes for you. After all, even the heroes need help every now and again."

It took Tara a little time to find Spin in the crowd. She wouldn't have recognized him. But then she started listening. To the conversations around her. A few familiar voices, but most of them were unknown. She had to close her eyes to get the real effect. Nothing but voices. But her feet were moving. She didn't bump into anyone, and she didn't even get close enough for the DRT's teeth to catch her off guard and gobble her up.

And when she opened her eyes, she found herself in front of Spin.

"Bet you've got Green Day on the brain," she told him, and only barely managed to stop herself from lunging forward and hugging him right then and there. Probably best not to take him by surprise.

He heard her coming. Nothing with the ears. It was too loud in here for that. Though it was almost too loud in the other sense, anyway. But he had been listening for her. He had known, in all this, if there was someone he needed to talk to...

Spin smiled. "I've got about fifteen hundred songs on the brain, but yeah, that's sounding a little prominent at the moment."

He paused a moment, trying to find something through the tangle of words to say. But there wasn't anywhere to start. He raised a hand, faltered another moment, before putting it on her shoulder. Over a hundred of John, George, Paul, and Ringo's quotes flew through his mind, before he finally managed to tumble one out of his mouth. "Don't let me down."

Sometimes it was good to know the same songs. Get on the same wavelength, start singing along to the same tune. Even if she couldn't hear whatever it was that kept Spin going. (And truth be told, she thought she had seen him before she moved over, but wasn't it cooler to pretend you could hear your friend from across the room?)

And just like everything else, the Beatles already answered this one. "You done me good," she replied, looking up at him like he was ready to grip her tight and raise her from perdition. "Don't you know it's gonna last?" When her own words failed her, she went to the ones from the masters. And she had a feeling she would be relying on her saints more and more as this conversation went on.

He smiled back. Every time he looked at her, he couldn't believe how much this girl had grown since he'd met her those months ago. How much she'd needed it, and how much he had. The pride never faded. This young woman had so much ahead of her, now. So much he wouldn't see, but...

But she'd do it anyway. She was strong enough. "The long and winding road that leads to your door will never disappear," he reminded her. "I've seen that road before. It always leads me here--to your door." That hand on her shoulder squeezed. "Many times I've been alone and many times I've cried. Anyway, you've always known the many ways I've tried, but still they lead me back to the long, winding road."

So much he didn't have to see. He didn't need to see everything to know the ways he'd changed Tara. The ways he had helped her mature and become a better, stronger person. He would just have to keep listening for her until the tune faded out. Music was a strong force. Anyone with ears knew that. It could change the world. Or just a girl.

Tara was finding it hard to focus on Spin's face, and eventually ended up looking down and laughing to stop herself from crying. "I didn't think anyone would want to fix all the holes I had. You've got a silver hammer and a heart of gold." It sounded cheesy, but... it worked. How Spin could keep the lyrics coming without ever breaking flow was a mystery to her. She glanced up at him. "I don't want to leave you now."

Spin shook his head. "You say goodbye, but I say hello." He had to close his eyes to hold it back again. That was happening a lot today. "I promise you, that this isn't end. Doesn't stop that easily." Dimensional travel... Commander had found how to do odder things. In time, maybe...

"You never know what's ahead," he told her. "I just need you to promise to hold up on your own in the meantime, all right?" Spin swallowed. It was hard, around that lump in his throat. "And I'll look forward to seeing how well I know you'll do." The smile was shaking. "Not a lot to say, then we will remember things we said today."
