Sora wondered if the Islands would be just the way he remembered them.
This world had changed him in so many ways that he'd never expected. He'd met so many people, so many that had grown close to his heart. It felt...full, of people, of thoughts, and hopes and worries and plans. He'd grown up, but not lost himself.
Through this mess of thoughts that filled his heart to overflowing, he did latch onto one thought: I'll use the gummi ship and find everyone again. We won't forget each other.

And what was he going to tell Aerith? How could he tell her that she'd have to wait for him again? She would already have to wait if she was going to an earlier point in time than he was, he didn't want to prolong it.
While he was mulling over all this he saw a familiar head of spikey brown hair.
"Hey, Sora..."

"Sora! Cloud!" Kairi took Sora by the hand, pausing at the pendant hanging from his shirt. She looked up at Sora, wondering what it meant. She had a good guess.

He finally noticed that she seemed to be looking at his chest, and Sora unconsciously fingered the cross pendant. "It's...Roxas's." Even though this much was very obvious.

Kairi glanced up at him as if to say, Really, I'd never have guessed. But her expression of concern resumed. "He's not coming, is he?"
Reply
He was even more grateful that she was there, that he wouldn't lose her now...she'd be going home with him. If anyone would understand what it was like to live without your Nobody, Kairi would.

"Do you know where he is right now?"
Reply
"Yeah, uh..." Sora pulled away enough for him to look up and scan the room or where he'd last seen his Nobody. "I think he's over by the big computer screens."
Reply
"Okay." She held him a little longer and didn't really move when she spoke next. "I'll be right back, okay?"
Reply
Sora just hoped that Kairi wouldn't come back looking too hurt, because Sora wasn't sure how he would handle that.
Reply
She'd only met Roxas indirectly before coming here, but she'd been glad she'd been able to meet him for real. This was going to be hard.

"I... I'll settle it. For real this time, you'll see," How long had it been since he had obsessively gone on and on about settling things with Sephiroth like this? Wasn't he past that? He wasn't that man anymore. "I can't keep making Aerith wait."

Aerith had been through just as much in Manhattan, too...but Sora knew she was strong.

He didn't really know if he would be able to finish it, though. While he felt like he had accepted the light he wasn't sure if it was because he really had, or if it was simply the temporary effect of not being able to feel Sephiroth's influence for months.

"You'll do okay, Cloud!" Sora reassured him. "I mean, we survived all this, right? And Aerith knows what you gotta do!"
