Sora and KH crew - OPEN TO ANYONE optimistickey October 3 2009, 06:54:15 UTC
It had been a long, exhausting, unbelievable past few days. Having Tagruato capture them all, thinking hope was lost, finding it again, getting their powers back, taking down Tagruato, even using the monsters against them. And now...now their journey home. This time, for real.

Sora wondered if the Islands would be just the way he remembered them.

This world had changed him in so many ways that he'd never expected. He'd met so many people, so many that had grown close to his heart. It felt...full, of people, of thoughts, and hopes and worries and plans. He'd grown up, but not lost himself.

Through this mess of thoughts that filled his heart to overflowing, he did latch onto one thought: I'll use the gummi ship and find everyone again. We won't forget each other.

The exact moment in time. Why did it have to be the exact moment? He was tired of fighting and he just wanted to go home and relax with his friends. And he certainly didn't want the first person he saw when he got home to be Sephiroth.

And what was he going to tell Aerith? How could he tell her that she'd have to wait for him again? She would already have to wait if she was going to an earlier point in time than he was, he didn't want to prolong it.

While he was mulling over all this he saw a familiar head of spikey brown hair.

"Hey, Sora..."

"Hey Cloud," Sora responded. He looked up to the massive DRT, then back to his friend. He wasn't wearing his crown necklace anymore, but Roxas's cross charm dangled from his shirt collar. "You ready to go back?" Cloud seemed to be bothered about something, but Sora didn't remember Cloud ever telling him what point in time he'd come from. Sora had just been happy to see him again.

Kairi had been handing out hugs like it was a promotional stunt. She told comrades congratulations and talked about what they did. But underneath it all was the sad chord of knowing it was the last discussion they'd ever have. Eventually she came to Sora and Cloud, a smile smile on her face.

"Sora! Cloud!" Kairi took Sora by the hand, pausing at the pendant hanging from his shirt. She looked up at Sora, wondering what it meant. She had a good guess.

If ever Sora needed Kairi's hopeful smile, it was now. Saying goodbye was incredibly hard on him, even if he had been smiling through it and making plans to visit everyone as soon as he was able. So when she called out to him, he responded with a grateful smile. "Kairi!"

He finally noticed that she seemed to be looking at his chest, and Sora unconsciously fingered the cross pendant. "It's...Roxas's." Even though this much was very obvious.

Goodbyes were never easy for Kairi, either. Seeing someone who she didn't need to say goodbye to was comforting, and she gave him a hug.

Kairi glanced up at him as if to say, Really, I'd never have guessed. But her expression of concern resumed. "He's not coming, is he?"

Sora accepted the hug completely, and didn't let her go for a long time. A part of him just wanted to stay with her, like this, forever. When she asked him about Roxas, he mumbled the reply into her shoulder. "No."

He was even more grateful that she was there, that he wouldn't lose her now...she'd be going home with him. If anyone would understand what it was like to live without your Nobody, Kairi would.

Kairi's lips parted a moment before she buried her face in his shoulder. Her words were muffled and soft. "I gotta go tell him goodbye, then." She let a tear soak into Sora's jacket collar, hoping he wouldn't notice.

"Do you know where he is right now?"

Sora didn't feel her crying into his shoulder, but he did feel that slight shudder from her as she did so, and tightened his grip for a moment. He didn't want to start crying again, not with Kairi here, but he was still close to it.

"Yeah, uh..." Sora pulled away enough for him to look up and scan the room or where he'd last seen his Nobody. "I think he's over by the big computer screens."

The tighter embrace was what Kairi needed, and she returned it. They both needed each other's strength right now.

"Okay." She held him a little longer and didn't really move when she spoke next. "I'll be right back, okay?"

Sora didn't move from his position until Kairi spoke to him again, and even when she did, it took him awhile to actually unwrap his arms from around her. But they had to use what time they had left. "Yeah, okay. I'll be here."

Sora just hoped that Kairi wouldn't come back looking too hurt, because Sora wasn't sure how he would handle that.

Even if Sora unwrapped his arms from her, she held on a second or two more. It was a combination of neither wanting to face the fact she'd never see Roxas again and wanting to be comforted. "...Okay."

She'd only met Roxas indirectly before coming here, but she'd been glad she'd been able to meet him for real. This was going to be hard.

"Y-yeah, I am," he hesitated, he was ready to go home, but he still wasn't ready to be launched into a fight. It wasn't fair.

"I... I'll settle it. For real this time, you'll see," How long had it been since he had obsessively gone on and on about settling things with Sephiroth like this? Wasn't he past that? He wasn't that man anymore. "I can't keep making Aerith wait."

While Cloud sounded sincere, there was still something else that was lingering at the back of his tone of voice. "Settle? You mean with Sephiroth?" he asked. After this world, it seemed that kinda thing was almost forgotten. But he supposed it was still important to Cloud.

Aerith had been through just as much in Manhattan, too...but Sora knew she was strong.

"I was in the middle of a fight with him when I was dragged here..." Cloud explained. "... If I'm going to be forced back into that fight, I have to be sure to finish it for good."

He didn't really know if he would be able to finish it, though. While he felt like he had accepted the light he wasn't sure if it was because he really had, or if it was simply the temporary effect of not being able to feel Sephiroth's influence for months.

"Oh." So he had been in the middle of a fight with Sephiroth. While Sora had seen Cloud leave, he'd never actually seen him return, either. He wondered if that happened in his future.

"You'll do okay, Cloud!" Sora reassured him. "I mean, we survived all this, right? And Aerith knows what you gotta do!"
