reddan and I spent Saturday tooling around town shopping for a bike for me. I finally decided that it was high time I forgave myself for allowing my previous bike to get stolen from the apt. in Bloomfield. (It was chained up behind the building, rather than in the apt, because I would have had to lug it up the emergency stairs. Got stolen 2 months after buying it.)
We started at Dirty Harry's in Verona. The sales guy, Jeff, was very nice and helpful, even though they were getting a lot of customers in. We picked out the 'best' one given their selection, which was very sleek while still being sturdy. The downside is I would still have to buy front suspension, adding another 100 to the price, which we will call X.
We then went back up to the northside, and had lunch, then the house to put Owen down for a nap, and to wait for
owl_eyes to get home from class. After that, we went down to REI, which through march is having a 20% off one item members sale. I find a comparable bike to the one at Dirty Harry's, sans disc brakes, but with suspension, alternate hand support, and pedals that work for both regular shoes and bike shoes. All for the price of X. Great! Let's test ride! But no, it is raining now, so that will have to wait.
Sunday, it is beautiful out, and the 3 of us coordinate to meet down yonder, for a combination of reasons. I test it, it is faboo. I determine the seat is not good for me, pick out a different one. They give me a refund for the original, and I buy the bike, and leave it there to have the seat swapped out. I also picked up 2 drink cages, a lock, a valve adaptor, and a side mirror. Since comparing to the first bike, I am saving about $200, and I would have to get all this stuff anyway, it's still pretty good.
I still need to accquire 'knee savers' which are posts that spread the pedals out a bit further out from the center.(Probably also a set of fenders while I am at it too.) This will be good, being that I ended up taking advil this morning for the knee soreness.
For the curious,
the bike!
I got home, and went out to the back and did some raking, if it is nice tonight, I will work on the garden some more. Need to purchase stuff to kill the whiteflies on my azalea & rhodis. Also need to decide where to plant Grandma's Moneyplants.
Debbie, Brian, and April came over for dinner and BSG, and that was lots of fun. Last night's was clearly a setup for the last couple eps of the season. Dinner was grilled stuff!
