Garden Clearing!

Mar 13, 2018 21:18

On Saturday it was wet. All day. I had arranged for a young man called Albert to get rid of a lot of the overgrowth (and undergrowth for that matter) in the garden and cut the hedge. He said he would bring some assistance as it was a big job - hence doing it on Saturdays as his mates probably have other jobs during the week! However when I looked at the weather I expected a phone-call to rearrange.

But no - at five past eight there was a knock on the door and there was Albert and his mate Mark, ready to crack on! So my role for the day was to keep them supplied with vast amounts of coffee and biscuits as they set about the garden with a large array of tools from nice wee secateurs to a very large chain saw. As they got to about an hour in two more young men in their twenties arrived - their job was to load all the stuff being removed into a transit van and then take it to the recycling/composting site. I never did find out what this pair were called - but they did five trips during the day.

Here is the first van load of leylandii about to make the trip. It got a lot wetter after that...

So - back in this post there were a couple of pictures of the back garden - although I don't think the 15ft high bamboo featured in any of them...

I took this picture about 10.00am -

And these two about 5.00pm -

As you can tell, I didn't venture out into the rain.

As well as clearing a lot of the back garden the hedge beside the house, which was about 15ft high and unruly, is now about 10ft high and tidy, and it is possible to walk easily along the side path to the front door.

Also, to our amusement, they carefully kept all the things I would have thought of as rubbish that emerged from the undergrowth, in case they were ours. So we have a couple of tatty dog toys, that Willow looked at with horror, and a very broken table umbrella that one of the young men has carefully put into my patio table! I must get rid of it - and buy a decent one when the weather improves!

Now to resurrect the bird-table that was also buried in the bushes, and wait to see how the remaining shrubs do now they have room to grow, and see where there are gaps to fill.

Oh - and these survived nicely -
