[Sam] Misery loves company starborn_scribe September 5 2006, 22:12:58 UTC
The cold of the tile floors crept through Sam's socks to his feet. He barely noticed as he stalked down the hallway, dressed in what he'd worn to bed: a hoodie, sweatpants, and a shoulder holster bearing a 9 mm handgun ( ... )

Aiden jumped when Sam knocked on the door. She wiped the tears from her eyes as she stood up. She took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind as she went to and opened the door.

She opened the door and looked at Sam.

"Yeah I...I'm fine." she lied. "I just..." tears filled her eyes and threatened to topple over the edge at any moment. "I'm a little homesick." a tear broke loose and ran down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away.

"I hope I didn't wake you." she apologized, looking down at the floor.

[Sam] She said I would not understand starborn_scribe September 6 2006, 12:18:12 UTC
"I'm a little homesick," Aiden said, wiping away a tear.

Sam managed a small smile. "Me, too." Not for the Impala or even seeing Dad again, but for Jess. That home was gone forever, thanks to the demon.

Aiden studied her feet. "I hope I didn't wake you."

Sam chuckled. "Nah. My idiot brother saw to that." He studied the pretty young woman for a moment, unsure what to do. She was standing in the doorway, and he sure as hell wasn't going to invite himself in. "I was heading to the cafeteria," he said finally. "Figure there's something more to drink there than coffee."

Aiden smiled at Sam, it was a small smile, but it was geuine.

"I can understand that. I have four idiot brothers of my own."

Aiden looked out into the darkened hallway and considered the darkened room behind her.

"Maybe there's even hot chocolate?" she questioned aloud, not quite inviting herself along.

[Daisy] The very same! sinanju September 7 2006, 04:25:49 UTC
Coming from here here to fight the evil right-shift.

"Thanks," Daisy said, sitting down with Aiden and the young man, who seemed content for the moment just to listen.

"I'm afraid it does," Daisy said, replying to Aiden's question. "Mean what you think it means, that is."

Her thoughts drifted back to her time as a captive for a moment. The sudden and shocking gunshot wounds or knifings were far from the worst of it. The methodical "scientific" butchery was what gaver her nightmares.

Daisy shivered and then shook off the memories. "That's why they kidnapped me. They wanted to see what they could learn about me."

"A Grim Reaper." Aiden swallowed hesitatingly. "So there's more then one. I don't suppose you keep records. Who escorts who into the after life. What is the after life anyway? Is there a heaven and hell? Do you see death coming or bring it. Is there someone doling out assignments or do you just take people as you see fit? Is this a choice or are you like a whole different species? Do you work on commission?"

Aiden rattled off things, trying to ask all the questions she could think of to hopefully keep Daisy from realizing the only question she was really concerned with.

[Daisy] So many questions! sinanju September 7 2006, 05:32:48 UTC
"My goodness," Daisy laughed, "You certainly ask a lot of questions!"

She took a sip of coffee while she organized her thoughts. "Okay, from the top.... Yes, there are lots of us. Yes, we keep records--you wouldn't believe the paperwork involved!"

Daisy paused. "I can't tell you what the afterlife is like. I don't know. We're--how did Rube put it? Bail bondsmen for the disembodied. We can show you to the door, but you have to go on alone."

"We get a list of souls to take every day--or we do when we're not stuck on this annoying little island. Contrary to popular myth, we don't kill anybody. People die--or get killed--with no help from us. We're just there to help you move on."

Another sip. "Work on commission? Don't I wish! We don't even get paid! It's really very annoying. Performing a public service is all very well, but really!"

"Then there's a record..." Aiden took a deep breath and licked her lips. To say it without saying it. "I guess...someone was there?" Aiden took a deep breath and stood up from the table, walking a few steps she turned her back to them. She didn't want them to see her cry.

Her face contorted and her heart hurt. Ten years, it had been ten years but the feelings washed over her afresh. She could smell the hospital room. Her her breathing. Remember how still she was when Aiden woke up.

"Then I guess you can't tell me why?" her voice broke and tears poured down her cheeks.

[Quentin] Ughhh...what happened? rwarner September 10 2006, 03:03:17 UTC
Quentin woke up with a splitting headache and a rumbling belly. /Where am I?/ he wondered to himself. The last thing he remembered was...shooting? As his mind played back the last events it had recorded, he remembered a sharp pain in the small of his back, between his shoulder blades ( ... )

"You slept through it." Aiden answered. "And lunch. There's some soup in thr fridge if you're hungry." she sipped her hot chocolate.

May looked up from her mug and waved at Quentin, smiling despite the mouthful of chocolate and mini-marshmallows that prevented her from speaking. "Things don't make sense here, ever. How're you doing? You okay?"

She couldn't remember if Quentin was one of the ones shot; everything had happened so fast when she rushed back to the scene, and spending the rest of the afternoon out on a sweep and then in the briefing made it hard to keep track of who was where. There was no sign of the pirate this time, which was good.

[Daniel] Evening, Citizens fikgirl September 10 2006, 13:29:40 UTC
It wasn't until Daniel woke up from his short nap that he realized how badly he needed the sleep. Just as if he were back at the SGC, chasing down a translation or trying to piece together a mystery, he kept going on cup after cup of coffee, never stopping to take a break. The short nap refreshed him for a few hours, but a quick stop in the bathroom to wash his face resulted in an impromptu check up by Dr. Pierson who none too subtly reminded Daniel that it was always a good thing for leadership to set a good example. Daniel agreed that he would get at least four hours of sleep - that was after bargaining down from six - after a final check in with all parties ( ... )
