Chapter 5 The day that Ryu was allowed to go home from the hospital, Hayato acted as if he was high on crack and ran around, fixing stuff in the apartment that was theirs. It was a spacious apartment placed above what would become Hayato’s ramen shop. The shop would open later that month and preparations were being made.
Hayato was once again fluffing the pillows on the sofa, making sure that they looked perfect.
“You look like a housewife”, Take remarked from his place in an armchair.
Hayato glared at him, “Ryu’s the one carrying the baby.”
“Yeah but you’re the one fluffing pillows”, Take smiled amusedly.
“I’m just worried that he’ll throw a fit if something is placed incorrectly or doesn’t look perfect enough”, Hayato sighed and sank down on the edge of the coffee table.
Ryu was now very pregnant and along with it came mood swings. Ever since Ryu’s stomach had begun growing, he’d become bitchier than ever.
“When will he get here?” Take asked.
“Any minute now”, Hayato glanced at his watch. “I can’t believe that Odagiri-san insisted on having his private chauffeur pick up Ryu from the hospital. What’s wrong with my old man’s driving?”
“Nothing… you know how Odagiri-san is.”
Hayato made a face, “Yeah, I know.”
The ringing of the doorbell made Hayato stand up quickly and rush to the door to let Ryu in. The light haired boy didn’t have any luggage since his things had been brought to the apartment beforehand.
“Welcome home”, Hayato said with a wide smile and kissed Ryu on the cheek; he would’ve kissed him on the mouth but held back for Take’s sake.
“How are you feeling, Ryu?” Take asked gently when Ryu had been shown around the apartment and they’d settled down in the living room.
“Swollen but happy to be out of the hospital”, Ryu replied. “I’m glad that you had time to come.”
“Yeah, we barely see you these days”, Hayato said.
“Busy with work”, Take said with an apologetic smile. “And, you know, my girlfriend.”
Take had gotten together with Maki from Momo Girls High School that he’d had a crush on for a long time.
“Of course”, Ryu smiled. “How is she?”
“She’s just fine. All four of us should do something together sometime.”
Hayato sensed Ryu’s discomfort and said, “If she’s not uncomfortable with… the situation”, he glanced at Ryu’s stomach.
“I’ve talked to her about it and she’s very supportive”, Take reassured them. “She loves children and she told me that she wouldn’t mind babysitting for you later on.”
“Tell her that we’re grateful”, Ryu said.
The three best friends continued chatting and they ate dinner together before Take had to leave and Ryu and Hayato were alone in their apartment for the first time. Ryu lied down on the sofa while Hayato took care of the dishes. Neither of them spoke and the only sound in the apartment was splashing water and the clatter of dishes. Hayato smiled to himself, he’d always wished for a peaceful family life.
“Hayato”, Ryu called from the living room just as Hayato was done with the dishes.
“Yeah”, Hayato said and walked into the living room where he found a glaring Ryu.
“Prepare a bath for me”, Ryu threw a pillow at a shocked Hayato who didn’t have time to duck and got the pillow straight in his face.
“Why are you mad?” Hayato blinked, confused.
“I’m not mad”, Ryu hissed. “Just prepare a freaking bath!”
Hayato rushed to the bathroom to do what Ryu had told him. When the bath was prepared, he carefully peeked into the living room, afraid of more flying pillows.
“Ryu, the bath is ready”, Hayato said, almost whispering.
“Thank you”, Ryu said, smiling, and got up from the sofa, walking towards Hayato.
The dark haired boy almost backed away in fear when Ryu got closer but to his surprise, the shorter boy kissed him.
“You’re welcome”, Hayato said with an uncertain smile.
Ryu took Hayato’s hand and led him to the bathroom, slowly stripping him.
“Bathe with me”, Ryu whispered seductively and Hayato gulped.
When Ryu had removed most of Hayato’s clothes, the taller boy finally decided to return the favour. Soon they were both naked and slid into the hot water together. Ryu had his back towards Hayato who gently washed him. The smaller man sighed contently and leaned against Hayato.
“Don’t get too excited”, Ryu said. “I don’t know when I’m going to have another mood swing.”
“I don’t mind”, Hayato said. “I can feel that you’re pretty excited yourself.”
Hayato slid a hand over Ryu’s rounded tummy and down to his erection. Ryu moaned and turned around in the spacious bathtub to straddle Hayato. He closed his eyes and held onto the taller boy’s shoulders while he prepared him. They hadn’t been together for so long that any hint of pain was like pure bliss when he sank down on Hayato.
They took it slow and careful to not do anything that might have hurt the baby. Their foreheads rested against each other while they moved together and the water moved around them. It might’ve been the most sensual moment in their life but they didn’t know. All they knew was that they would share many more moments like this one in their life but that didn’t make it any less special.

Ryu’s stomach grew but he still had to go outside so he covered it with large shirts. He cursed over the fact that the only pants large and comfortable enough were ugly sweatpants.
“You look beautiful”, Hayato reassured him but Ryu just glared.
“I look like a hippo”, he snapped.
“A gorgeous hippo”, Hayato grinned. “Come on, let’s go.”
He dragged Ryu out of the apartment and down the stairs. The opening of the ramen shop was very close and they were on their way to buy a few needed things. They took the long way through a nearby park where parents played with their children and people walked their dogs. Along the path they bumped into someone they hadn’t expected to meet.
“You guys!” Yankumi called out, surprised and waved overly energetic in her usual way.
“Yamaguchi”, Hayato said and smiled a bit as Yankumi came running.
“Have you guys been well?” Yankumi asked and looked back and forth between them. “You’ve put on weight, Odagiri-kun, it looks good on you.”
Ryu shrugged and looked away, muttering something unintelligible. Yankumi punched his arm playfully, making him wince and rub the spot.
“Anyway, what are you doing here?” Hayato asked.
“I’m on my way to a job interview”, Yankumi smiled. “What about you?”
“We’re going shopping for some things; I’m opening a ramen shop soon.”
“That’s great! What about you, Odagiri-kun?”
“He’s going to help me out with the shop for now”, Hayato answered in Ryu’s place. “We share an apartment right above it.”
“Roommates, huh?” Yankumi said, beaming. “That’s great! You two have always been such great friends”, she looked at her watch. “I’m late! It was great meeting you, I hope we’ll meet soon again, bye!”
Yankumi started running and Hayato and Ryu looked after her.
“Always so energetic”, Ryu remarked and Hayato nodded.

At first, business was really slow but then word was spread about the ramen shop that was owned by a handsome young man. It became really popular with teenage girls and also older women and Hayato became really busy. Ryu helped as much as he could but he didn’t want too many to see his large stomach and he needed as much rest as he could get. They’d soon have to hire someone to help.
Hayato collapsed on the sofa after another long workday. Ryu sat in an armchair, resting his hands on his stomach while watching something on TV.
“There’s food in the fridge”, Ryu said without moving his gaze from the screen. “You’ll just have to heat it.”
“Thanks”, Hayato said and groaned. “But after spending the whole day cooking, I think I’ll puke if I see food.”
Ryu frowned and looked at Hayato, “You haven’t eaten properly in weeks, you’ll become as thin as a stick. Hayato, you have to eat to get strength.”
“I’ll eat later tonight, I promise.”
“You better or I’ll have to kick your ass.”
Hayato snorted, “As if you could.”
“I could bring you down anytime”, Ryu said confidently.
“You’ve never won in a fight against me.”
“Because we’ve never been allowed to finish our fights.”
They glared at each other until both of them burst into laughter.
“Fine, I’ll eat”, Hayato said and stood up. “Do you want something from the kitchen?”
Ryu shook his head, “I’m good.”
“That you are”, Hayato said, smirking before walking to the kitchen.

The ramen shop continued to flourish and as Ryu’s stomach grew, Hayato had to hire someone new to help. He hired a handsome boy in their own age and at first Ryu was a bit jealous even if he denied it. Hayato found it incredibly cute that Ryu was jealous of another boy.
“You spend most of the day with him while I’m stuck in the apartment”, Ryu said grumpily one night when Hayato had closed the shop.
“I never talk to him about anything other than what people order”, Hayato answered. “You have absolutely nothing to be jealous of.”
“I never said that I was jealous.”
Hayato just smiled and kissed Ryu while caressing his big belly.
“The caesarean is scheduled for next week, right?” Hayato asked and looked at Ryu with eyes full of adoration which made the pregnant boy feel uncomfortable.
“It is”, he said. “Then I can finally get rid of all of this fat”, Ryu poked his stomach.
“It’s not fat, Ryu, it’s our baby”, Hayato grinned and Ryu had to laugh.
“Yeah, our baby”, Ryu smiled and Hayato kissed him again.
The following week, Shinya sent his personal chauffeur to pick Ryu and Hayato up and bring them to the hospital.
Hayato was like a bundle of nerves, bouncing on his seat while Ryu seemed a lot more calm and collected. Of course, it is rather difficult to bounce when being 9 months pregnant.
Everyone was gathered at the hospital, Ryu’s parents, Hayato’s father and brother. Take, Tsucchi and Hyuuga were also there.
The doctor examined Ryu to make sure that everything was fine before he was brought into surgery. Hayato couldn’t sit still and paced back and forth in the waiting room. Shinya glared at him but he didn’t care. It wasn’t until Take and Tsucchi pushed Hayato down on a chair that he sat down.
“How long does a caesarean take?” he asked impatiently.
“Hayato, it’s only been 15 minutes since they took him in there”, Tsucchi pointed out.
“Oh.”
Finally, a smiling nurse came into the waiting room.
“The father can come in now”, she said and Hayato practically bounced up from his seat.
He followed the nurse to the hospital room they’d brought Ryu and the baby to. Hayato nervously stepped into the room and saw Ryu half-sitting in the bed with a bundle in his arms. Ryu looked up when he heard Hayato’s footsteps and smiled widely.
“Hayato”, he said, voice brimming with happiness. “We have a son.”
Hayato walked to stand at Ryu’s side, gazing down at the baby boy with wide eyes.
“We have a son”, he repeated Ryu’s words. “I’m a father.”
Hayato promptly burst into tears when Ryu gently handed the baby to him.
“I want to call him Shohei”, Ryu said while Hayato looked at the sleeping baby in his arms.
“Welcome to the world baby Shohei”, Hayato mumbled. “I’m going to be the best father ever.”
“What about me?” Ryu asked.
“You’re going to be the best mother of course”, Hayato smirked and Ryu glared at him.
“I hate you, Yabuki Hayato.”
“I love you too, Yabuki Ryu.”
“Oh, shut up.”
They smiled at each other and little Shohei slept peacefully, unknowing of the fact that every family wasn’t like his.
