Quick question about tie dyeing. I am planning to tie dye several cotton shirts using RIT dye. Do you think that it would be a wise idea to wash the shirts before starting to dye them?

Ive never dyed wool before and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if its possible to dye it without destroying the wool or shape.

Its 100% wool and I was hoping to dye it black. Ive heard of a few disaster stories but no one has present a solution or a different method.

I like hand-dyed fabrics for cross stitch because they do add a depth to the background. But I know you can do at least some of them at home instead of buying them (though purchasing is easier!). I came across a recipe for dyeing fabric with turmeric and decided to give it a try.

Hey all, what are your experiences with fabric dyes based on kitchen ingredients? So far, I've only tried turmeric and it turned out great. But I did some searching and it seems that other substances (beets, spinach, red cabbage) do not come out so well - they apparently are very faint, wash out easily, or fade in the sun. I'd like to try plum peel
