Got myself a drill and a very long 1/4" drill bit and put a little hole in the wall right at the corner near floor level. Ran the cable through it, which remarkably went straight through without any need for elaborate schemes to prevent it from bunching up inside the wall. Today I bought a crimping tool and some RJ11 jacks. I stripped some shielding off a length of CAT5 We happen to have from when we were planning to use the basement room in Hayward (the one that flooded), and crimped a jack onto four of the wires from the cable. So, we currently have DSL with the modem connected in the kitchen, because that was the only plug in the house we could seem to get signal across. The wiring off the box from the phone company is a spaghetti bowl, and I don't relish the idea of crawling under the house... I actually dreamt about the PDA phone last night. I dreamt that it had this feature that would notify me when two people who were listed in my contacts were talking to each other. It let me hear what they were talking about, it showed video on the screen of what they were doing at the moment, and it asked me if I wanted to join the conversation.

To be fair, I'm using the PDA phone quite a lot, and I've found a number of useful items available for free. I'm starting to look at the less expensive of the paid apps that I'm interested in now. But I have to gripe that there's nothing I can find either free or paid that will sync the addressbook on the Palm with the addressbook in the mail ( Read more... )

I've never been that big on the camera phones, largely because of the outrageous charges they catch you with for actually doing anything with the pictures you take beyond looking at them on the phone. I knew I was forgetting something in the wishlist. Does anyone know of a good PalmOS LJ client? I found a reference to something that was apparently last updated in 2001...

If anyone would like to suggest PalmOS apps that I should try out on the Treo 600... Of course I'm especially interested in the free and open source stuff, but if there's something you consider invaluable (or at least worth the price) please let me know.
