The final word on the DSL project

Got myself a drill and a very long 1/4" drill bit and put a little hole in the wall right at the corner near floor level. Ran the cable through it, which remarkably went straight through without any need for elaborate schemes to prevent it from bunching up inside the wall. Pulled through enough to carry over to where the box is, crimped another RJ11 jack on the outside end and plugged it into the test plug inside the box. Moved the model out of the kitchen and into the office, plugged it all in and tested it out. We're getting 5120 now, which is what we got before connected directly to the test plug.

On the whole, I'd have to say the operation has been relatively painless, and I highly recommend this method for anyone who has DSL and no local service.
