I have been woefully negligent in my LJ ing. Blame Facebook. I actuallly have lost braincells because of FB, and my ablity to read long things on line. I can still read books, thank goodness, at my ever so slow pace.
Last weekend we went to Rockport to stay in the cottage owned by the second cousins. Or maybe the cousins once removed, I forget. In any event, it was nice. Cold, but nice. Of course on the way up, the tire pressure indicator came on.. so that was a bit nerve wracking. Turns out there was a slow leak from a nail that I didnt' know I had. UG!
It turned out that there was a harvest fest on that Sat in downtown, so we had lots to poke around looking at. We walked about 8 miles, back and forth to town twice, and then all around town. Which was good to counter the chow. We also met up with a former co worker of Ryther's, and he, it turns out, is married to someone from the town I grew up in. Small world. We hope to get together again sometime, either up there or here.
We also talked a bit to the cousin who inherited the house. He's turned into a horder.. which is pretty sad. He's also managed to lose the insurance on the house because he refuses to trim back or cut down a tree that hangs over the house. We were not allowed in the house.. and he freely admitted it was a mess... but its sad to see this very excentric but nice man (he just qualified for Medicare) putting his future at risk for stubborness. I wish his parents had considered this before leaving the house in his hands, rather than his brother's.
I was up at the crack of dawn Sat and got some wonderful photos of the sun rising. It's right on the water, and you can see the sun as it comes up over the horizon, which I can never see here with the trees. So very amazing.
Today we went to Boston to meet up with the lad. He needed his Social Security card for a job aplication, and he had left it at home (because you are not supposed to keep it in your wallet..) . We met at Fanuel Hall, after he had a ride from hell on the Train.. had to be pushed in by another train, this bodes so well for hte winter... and we chatted for a brief time before he went off to find his friends. And so it goes.
Yeah, the job.. he has seemed to realize that he needs money... I hope he gets the job he's applying for. It's with the IT dept I guess, so it would be good experience for what he's workign towards.
Oh, and they are digging up my street to put in new water lines. Which is good in some ways. We came home to a new fire hydrant across from our house Friday. Do I get a discount on my insurance I wonder?
