Spring snow for fools

Last nights blizzard added up to almost 2 inches, and then turned to rain. I was bound and determined to make a snow man, which I did. It was a rainy day most of the day. I changed the oil in the JD mower, and that was about it. Went to lunch to try to meet up with one of my fathers old pals, but he didn't show, however two others did. A sweet old couple, Yankee townies who insisted on buying my lunch. I hate when they do that. I also hate when the waitress assumes I am 'with' the others even though I clearly came in first and ordered separately. It makes it awkward and I think gave them the idea that they were expected to pay. It's not the first time the waitress has screwed up like that either, combining bills and such. I guess next time I go in I have to specifically say "I'm paying for my own meal." or give her a $20 before I start eating and just ask for the change when I'm done. Idiots.

Hoping to get the taxes done this weekend. We're having the cousin over tomorrow for a sleep over, then I and Himself and two cousins are going to RI to some glass blowing place where the two boys will be making paperweights for their birthday adventure. Sounds super cool to me. My only fear is driving with my MIL who likes to tailgate. I'll be sweating this ride out both ways.

I was looking at a photo of a house in the water in Japan that was being searched for bodies, and on the roof it looked like there was some kind of solar powered something. I'd like to know what percentage of homes in Japan have alternative energy products on them or in them. I know that there was some talk about power generating home heaters that I mentioned a few years ago, more bang for your buck, that are widely used in Japan. What else are they doing that we should be too? For that matter, what other ideas are there all over the world. I know in England, we had in line hot water heaters that heated the water as needed, to save energy. Why aren't all the ideas that are used and HAVE been used over the years being incorporated into today's buildings? It's insane that we don't use the advances in technologies that have been made.

As an update to the news bit that I posted about the drug that stops premature births, "The price increase caused and outcry and the Food and Drug Admin. on Wed took the unusual step of declaring that pharmacies can still make the cheap version of hte once-a week shot on an individual basis, as they have for years." So what does that mean? If you have insurance that will pay for it, you can soak the insurance for the uber profits, and if not, you can charge a reasonable amount? No, nothing wrong with health care in America. Nothing at all.

Which brings me to the next drug related news article I saw. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2011/03/31/medicare_to_cover_prostate_cancer_drug/ "Medicare officials said yesterday that the program will pay the $93,000 cost of the prostate cancer drug Provenge, an innovative therapy that gives men suffering from the disease an extra four months to live, on average." $93,000. for four months of life. That's insane. No, it's NOT worth it. I'm sorry, it's just not. It is not reasonable or necessary, especially when so many other treatments are denied. When you can't get a home health aid or some simple thing to improve quality of life, yet someone can get a drug that will only extend their life by four months, and no mention on the quality of life those four months are. I have to wonder when I see that how much of the Medicare bill big Pharma wrote.

Oh and as an unintentional April fools, my husband left his morning with my car keys in his pocked (he cleaned off my car). No big deal since I did find the spare key, but he must have felt very guilty, as I got a box of flowers a few minutes ago. lol
