first summer update.

I'm "back." I'm in Minneapolis (at my dad's) for the night and... I don't know for sure how much longer. Still waiting for the phone call on that one.

Anyway, there are so many things to talk about, that I suppose I'll get to the LJ cuts now.

Packing and leaving school was relatively easy. It really didn't take especially long (though I was an hour behind schedule). It only took 45 minutes to take the final, and there were no surprises. Lesson of the day: 1 day of being a dust-bunny is so much easier than cleaning every week. Though I do think that since we'll be living somewhere nice next year, Megan and I have to get over the cleaning phobia and try a little upkeep. At least a few times over the course of the year. :)

The biggest mistake I made was leaving my computer set up (and on) so that I could clean to music. Because I then had to hurry in my attempt to disassemble (please remember that my father has been the only person to ever put together and take apart this machine, and doesn't like me watching over his shoulder, so it's not like I had any clue what I was doing).... I kind of broke it. My amazing super-strength yanked out not only the correct part of the plug (which I later found out screwed in, thus causing my frustration), but also the plate covering all of the plugs, but also the other end of the thing. (Yeah, I know very little computer terminology, so kudos to you if you understand what the hell I'm talking about.)

My dad was amazed at my "powers," and thought it was pretty funny. I... well, I thought I had broken it forever and it was all my fault and I was already full of dust when it happened and was all sore and tired, and basically I almost had a breakdown in my little Wahlstrom dust room.

Long story short, my dad was actually able to fix it pretty well (though he neglected to tell me that it was his FIRST TIME tinkering around inside the computer until well after my computer was in pieces on the floor). So we don't have to buy a new anything. Whew. (And now I have it set up next to my bed so I can listen to music and play Spider/Pinball/etc.)

Did you know that there's a show on... I don't know where... that's called, "Craft Corner Deathmatch"? NO LIE. It was one of the weirdest things I had ever seen. I couldn't tell if it was real, or trying to be ironic (AND HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY FAILING), or what was going on.

The only episode I saw was where the first face-off involved decorating a plain, paper lantern with crepe paper and papel picado and other assorted colorful crap. This caused chants of "Pa-per Lan-tern (clapclapclapclapclap)" (like the chants by crowds at sports events)... one of the weirdest things. That was followed by the "make flowers out of sponges and pipe cleaners" challenge. These mini-challenges were only ten minutes long. Supposedly this show culminates with a face-off with the reigning craft queen, but I couldn't stick around any longer. Creepy stuff, man.

Though I'll admit that nearly 24 hours a day access to old Law & Order episodes is not necessarily a bad thing.

AND, I saw a really interesting show on the history of Syphilis. So there you go.

SLP won State synchro again. It's not that I'm not happy for them, because I really am. I understand how much time and work it takes. They deserve the credit, I know. But I can't help but think about how the whole high school system has changed, and how this whole generation has it so much easier because there's actually other schools that are doing well and making it so that there isn't the monopoly/duopoly that there used to be. I think back to how hard we had to work, and how everything that we did isn't even recognized or known about by most of the girls there now. I don't know. It just makes me sad and jealous.

Finally, I hope you all had good trips home, and good ends of the year!

P.S.- Oh! And apostrophet- When I got up on Wednesday morning and went downstairs, there was an article on the counter from my mom, that was about the Chavez-Castro similarities/alliance. And I read it, and I was extremely surprised too find that it was one of the least-biased articles I've ever read (though really, that's not saying much). What was even more surprising? It was in the USA Today. I couldn't even believe it. Seriously.
