Tolkien was really right when he said (as the narrator in The Hobbit) that there really isn't a lot to report when a day goes well.  It's much easier to write a lot about difficulty and danger.  I should really rustle up the exact quote but I'm so mellow (or, um, lazy) tonight I'll just leave it at that for now.

Today Lee and I explored Rockwood Park in the Southside of Richmond.  Lee hadn't been there since he was in 7th grade, more than a decade ago!  I adored it.  It wasn't exactly as Lee remembered it, but he loved it too.  Although I was excited about the giant heron we saw and the frog I almost stepped on, my favorite thing was following the winding ( Read more... )

This year I won with 50,758 words (according to Word) but definitely the best of the three stories I wrote for NaNoWriMo.  I actually LIKE this one.  It's so much closer to the fantasy story I've been wanting to write all these years but failing to do.  And it's that fantasy story I've wanted to write even ( Read more... )

I had a great time on Friday night and Saturday!  On Friday night Lee and I saw a local production of Richard II, a play of Shakespeare's that's rarely performed.  Saturday I spent the whole day with Patrick visiting Colonial Williamsburg, finishing up with a dinner at Friendly's with Lee.  It was great, more than great.  I feel terrific.

Finally I'm back in Richmond for good!  I've been back since last Tuesday but I'm still settling in and my new status is still sinking in.  After six weeks of traveling, I am no longer a nomad.  After about eight weeks of living in Connecticut (first teaching at camp, then just hanging out) I am finally a Richmonder again.  It feels GOOD.
