I suspect Lola might have a bad tooth. Her jaw seems to be a bit sore and she has smelly breath, which she never used to have. I wanted to take her to the vet, but then the weather got so cold I didn't have the heart to take her outside. I don't think it hurts her, not much anyway, she eats and plays like she always does. How do your pets react to the sound of the fireworks? I sort of hate New Year's Eve for all the explosions and noise that scare animals. Scooby used to be very afraid of them, but now that he can't hear well, they obviously don't bother him at all ;) Lola was a bit nervious last year, she hid under a chair during the worst of it, but on the whole ( Read more... )

I've been having such a nerve-wracking week so far. Scooby is sick again, he had a stroke on Sunday night, just couldn't get up on Monday morning. He got better later, he can walk, even go down and up the stairs, but he's quite weak and pretty wobbly. I've just ordered a scratch post for the kitteh. It's quite cute and not too big, I didn't want to spend a fortune on something I'm not even sure she's going to use. Before I became owned by a cat a cat owner, I always thought cats were really quiet creatures. Ha! Turns out I got one that's really loud. Oh, she can be quiet when it suits her, especially when she's trying to sneak out of the flat for a little exploration of the building, which she's managed to do three times so far. Lola has gained two kilos since she was fixed last October. She weighs five kilos now and it all seems to be related to hormones somehow, because she really doesn't eat a lot. She's still on prescription diet and eats her prescribed amount of food - 50 grams a day, usually even less than that. I very rarely give her any treats, because she simple ( Read more... )

We took Lola to our summer house for the first time yesterday. At fist she was a bit unsure, hiding in the garage and then inside the house, but an hour or two since we arrived she started venturing outside, and by afternoon she'd already examined every bush and flower bed and sharpened her claws on every tree. I've got the first end of the school year flowers today, put them in a vase, and Lola immediately wanted to eat the ornaments. I put the vase out of her reach, but I shudder to think what will happen on Friday, when almost every available flat space in my apartment is going to be filled with vases of flowers.
