There's also a book being written by Martha Wells about Leia and one by Kevin Hearne on Luke (I've read both these authors and enjoyed them). Seems like they are releasing a bunch of new novels focusing on the main characters.
I don't seem to have a hankering for anything. I'm looking at my TBR and just ain't feeling it. It's not a slump in that I want to read something. I want to read something that will knock my friggen socks off... It's been so long I've gotten immersed in a book completely.
You know, I'd heard the other characters were getting a focus, but I didn't know who was writing them. AWESOME. You guys might see some Star Wars reviews next year!

I understand completely. I think that's part of why I'm reading so slowly right now... nothing is grabbing me and not letting me go. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying what I'm reading, but you know...
I just finished Ironskin by Tina Connolly and that was fantastic! But what I am dying to read is The Madness Underneath Book Two in the Shades of London series by Maureen Johnson. I've read the first book two times and I might just have to read it again because it really captured my attention. I only have to wait until February 26th...
Readathons always sound like such a neat idea, but they ALWAYS take place on Satudays when I work, so I've never tried them out. I ended up reading vol 10 (The Good Prince) in the Fables series anyway, and it was one of my favorite in the series.
And there's no shame in loving tie-in fiction! I read quite a few Buffy books back in high school, and I still read the comics to this day. Never really been a big Star Wars fan though, which I know it a controversial view for a geek. They're fun movies and all but they've never really gotten me excited.
I'm reading Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts and it's one of the worst fantasy books I've ever read. I don't like any the characters, I'm more than halfway through the book and NOTHING has happened, I don't understand the magic system, and she has the horrible habit of building a scene up then just letting it peter out to nothing. I would put this book aside but I'm leading the online group read and even worse, Janny is chatting with us. I don't want to hurt her feelings by saying just how awful I think it is.
Once I'm done though I have Archangel's Storm by Nalini Singh, Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews and the latest Jacqueline Carey, Dark Currents. Whoo hoo!
Is that the first book of her series? I've heard from many people that her books are trying.... that there's a payoff, eventually. If you don't have the patience, though, I don't blame you. Everything I've heard indicates she's not an easy read.
Yes, it's the first book of an EIGHT book series and I really don't have the patience. I don't mind long series as long as there is headway made during each book and it has some type of end point. Curse is already two days late at the library because I'm dragging my feet over finishing it.
If you're not liking it, why bother finishing it? Life's too short to force yourself to read stuff you don't enjoy, and besides, there's too many good books out there!
I've never read any of the Star Wars tie-in novels, though I have read some Star Trek ones and enjoyed them. It's nice to respark old interests though, and I'm glad for you that you are getting interested in the Star Wars books again. I look forward to your thoughts on them.
My great teenage literary passion was for Anne McCaffrey's books. I had actually just been thinking that I needed to pull out Dragonsinger and re-read it. It's the book that I have without a doubt read the most in my life, maybe 50 or 60 times? I'm not sure. I have not read it in about 10 years, though.
I always fear re-reading old books I loved, because I'm afraid I'll pick out flaws I didn't see before that will ruin the book for me. Not quite an irrational fear, but not one I want to face head on either. :)
Oh, I clearly see flaws in Anne McCaffrey's books, especially in her treatment of sex, but I have such a deep emotional attachment that I read them anyway. It helps that my favorite, Dragonsinger, does not have any of the problematic sex in it, but it's a big issue with some of her other books.
