I've never read any of the Star Wars tie-in novels, though I have read some Star Trek ones and enjoyed them. It's nice to respark old interests though, and I'm glad for you that you are getting interested in the Star Wars books again. I look forward to your thoughts on them.

My great teenage literary passion was for Anne McCaffrey's books. I had actually just been thinking that I needed to pull out Dragonsinger and re-read it. It's the book that I have without a doubt read the most in my life, maybe 50 or 60 times? I'm not sure. I have not read it in about 10 years, though.

I always fear re-reading old books I loved, because I'm afraid I'll pick out flaws I didn't see before that will ruin the book for me. Not quite an irrational fear, but not one I want to face head on either. :)

Oh, I clearly see flaws in Anne McCaffrey's books, especially in her treatment of sex, but I have such a deep emotional attachment that I read them anyway. It helps that my favorite, Dragonsinger, does not have any of the problematic sex in it, but it's a big issue with some of her other books.

It's good you have such a deep attachment then, to be able to look past the flaws!

I could never get into McCaffrey's books, the sex thing being one of the foremost issues I had with them, but more importantly, of the one Dragonriders book I finished, I just didn't identify with or even really like any of the main characters--which obviously makes it kind of difficult to care about what happens to them.

It was disappointing because I thought I'd really like her work, but that didn't turn out to be the case.

I think it's better to be younger when reading her work. That's not a guarantee one will like it, but if you've not read much in the genre, it may help? :-/
