I'm reading Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts and it's one of the worst fantasy books I've ever read. I don't like any the characters, I'm more than halfway through the book and NOTHING has happened, I don't understand the magic system, and she has the horrible habit of building a scene up then just letting it peter out to nothing. I would put this book aside but I'm leading the online group read and even worse, Janny is chatting with us. I don't want to hurt her feelings by saying just how awful I think it is.

Once I'm done though I have Archangel's Storm by Nalini Singh, Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews and the latest Jacqueline Carey, Dark Currents. Whoo hoo!

Is that the first book of her series? I've heard from many people that her books are trying.... that there's a payoff, eventually. If you don't have the patience, though, I don't blame you. Everything I've heard indicates she's not an easy read.

Yes, it's the first book of an EIGHT book series and I really don't have the patience. I don't mind long series as long as there is headway made during each book and it has some type of end point. Curse is already two days late at the library because I'm dragging my feet over finishing it.

If you're not liking it, why bother finishing it? Life's too short to force yourself to read stuff you don't enjoy, and besides, there's too many good books out there!

I gave it up as a lost cause last night. I was pushing myself because I felt obligated as the group leader but it was just too painful!

Oh yeah. When you're group leader, it's really hard to not finish. I feel your pain!
