* No packages for me today. Total for December so far: 9
* Natural Gas bill...about a 1/3rd consumption for this period than the same period a year before. We had some pretty cold days so the furnace kicked in rather than use the heat exchanger.

Got the cook's tour today of the Heat Pump and Furnace installation and paid the balance due on the work and equipment.

It is much more complex than the single furnace we had before, but it is how you get greater energy efficiency (95% plus!).( features )

The new furnace in our basement was assembled and put in place today. New ducting as added for the return air. The final wiring must wait for the electricians tomorrow. This includes connection of the thermostat unit on the first floor (these are more little computers than themostats anymore: no more little round thing).( old Lennox )

The work paid off! The work to replace our old Lennox gas-furnace with a Frigidaire high efficiency heating-cooling system began today and the folks doing the work had good access to everything. About the only thing I did not consider was the need to place the thermostat higher on the 1st floor wall (to meet code). If I had, I would have removed ( Read more... )

Just a note to say that mid-April in Portland is too early to turn off the heat. While it is warming up, according to my LiveJournal posts, there is at least one good chilly period before it truly starts getting too warm for furnace use. So for now waiting until May 25, which is when I turned it off last year. Certainly do not plan on doing it ( Read more... )
