Burning Down The House

Oct 05, 2010 00:11

Today was mostly interesting for one specific thing, which I've not written about before (I think). The housing company has been thinking about renovating the group of buildings in which I live for a while now. This started about one year ago, and is now slowly on it's way to become a reality. The basic idea is that first they'll tear the houses down, then rebuilt them in the original style (they're monuments and in bad shape). Now because of this tearing down you can't live in the house while they're renovating it. The renovation will take about a year, after which you have the choice of either returning or not returning.

I'm still a bit mixed on this. For one thing I really like the neighborhood, but something has to be done about the houses. It's dusty and wettish (sp?). But the bigger issue have with it is that it's also on the small side (it was fine when I came to live here, but now I managed to amass to much junk I've grown out of it) so the prospect of having more space would be nice.

So today a person working for the housing company came around to talk about the renovating plans, and she told me that there's a period in which I still have the option to permanently relocate or to come back after the renvations are done. Which is a nice prospect as well.

In the mean time, it's probably a good idea to start looking for houses (to rent) a bit, to get a taste for what I want :-)
