I turn into a hermit when I read - that's probably no surprise to anyone who knows me. When it's a series, I become even more secluded and absorbed. It seems that when it's a series I am listening to on audio book, my housemates are lucky if they catch sight of me on a tea or bathroom break for weeks at a time. For the benefit of the Isobelle Carmody fans who are not on Obernet (everyone else can ignore this), The Sending is no longer coming out in March next year. Best guess is late 2010 or 2011. :( I suppose if I've been waiting sixteen years I can wait a few more.

The other day I picked up one of the His Dark Materials books for the first time in three years. I haven't been able to touch them since handing in my thesis in 2002. I only read a few chapters but got sucked in again by the beautiful writing and gripping, complex, ambitious plot.
