I was surprised at what a big send off the kids gave me as I left the orphanage.   I'd seen other visitors being sent off, with some of the kids running round the tuktuk.  They gave me a t-shirt and some of the braceletes the kids make, and asked if I would come back.  "One day" I said - and one kid asked..did you say Monday?  Sitha had to explain ( Read more... )

As with any experience, staying at the orphanage hasn't all been happy-perfect-good etc.  The problems are small and don't detract from how great the experience has been to stay here, but I think adding the negative things will help make my blog well rounded ( Read more... )

I'm just about to teach another English lesson.  On Sunday I went with Daro to see Ankor Wat.  We both cycled, but my bike was quite tough going, and I was finding it hard work.  We eventually got to a place where we could see the temple in the distance, behind some trees, but we encountered some guards who told me I need to get a ticket to cycle ( Read more... )

So it's mid-day of my 5th day at BCV orphanage. Two nights ago I wasn't feeling very well, and woke desperate to get to the loo.  It turned out my gut clearly wasn't happy with something, and I was off and on the loo for a couple of hours.  Thankfully I took some peptobismal and it cleared up by the time I was due to head off to the market with ma ( Read more... )

It's getting to the end of my third day on the orphanage.  Yesterday they finished building the kitchen, and the kids took the remaining cement, mixed it up, and used the tools the builders had left behind to mend some of the "porch".   Megan and Joseph volunteer at an orphanage in the Philippines too, and those kids had all prepared a little ( Read more... )
