The commute to work is going to suck again today...

I hope this has cleared up by this afternoon, because I want to attend Aikido Winterschool (in Arnhem), which is, on a good day, already almost 2 hours of travel (and starts at 18:30).

At work there's a new, I guess you could call it a procedure or state, called "Ithanic". When it is declared it means there is a critical "IT Panic" of the order of a 747 having crashed on top of the datacenter or a datacenter completely or partially disabled because of fire or flooding and we should all scramble to prepare to execute or execute ( Read more... )

So, the holidays were very restful: we didn't do a thing apart from visiting our parents, see a movie, went out for dinner lots of times, had dinner at home together and generally fiddled around.

Work ran a little late yesterday afternoon/evening. It made me miss my train so I was late for Aikido practice. Consequently, I wasn't there in a timely fashion to participate in the warm-up exercises. I am regretting this very badly right now. Well, the mechanics just left:

• holes for posts have been drilled in the floor (the old radiator was attached to the old window frame, but you can't drill in the new one, it being all plastic and needing to be without holes to not let the heat isolation escape)
• posts have been placed
• the new radiator is attached to the poles

Next week some builders will be removing the back of my flat. (yes, really!)

The same day they are going to replace it though, hopefully, with a new frame that holds double glazing (instead of the horribly thin single glass that has been in there since it was built). Also, the bedroom window could never be opened. There is a window frame there, with ( Read more... )

This weekend was spent being at the Ordina J-Technologies yearly party. It was held somewhere close to the German border (near a small village called Lattrop) in a very deluxe hotel/estate. Today (and yesterday) I've been slightly deaf. My ears need rinsing by at my GP (which will be done by her assistant again, I think). So since Wednesday evening I've been having to prepare for this by having to drip oil in both my ears (olive oil, I only have olive oil and peanut oil, and the latter is too viscuous).
