Yuck.
Tony & I have been living in Pine Ridge Apartments for nearly 2 years. Seemed really great - 2 miles from where I work, close to tons of restaurants/stores, etc, lots of extras available (indoor & outdoor pool, tennis courts, exercise room, movie theater, etc)... The first year things were mostly good. Over time things have gone downhill faster and faster.
-The Directv lady who installed our Directv (which also sucks, by the way...we're getting rid of it when our contract is up...) decided it'd be a great idea to SLICE the carpet in the doorway to our bedroom to bring the cable in. So, of course, the carpet around the slice is getting nice and frayed (which I'm sure we'll pay for *sigh*).
-Ants. On the 6th floor. Ants. And no, they don't go for food...they go for the cat's water. Oy.
-6th floor. Don't think this needs more comment.
-Laundry in the basement. Only other comment I'll make is that I like to know whose hairs are on my clothes. ick.
-The elevators. There are 3 elevators for 12 floors of people (probably 24-30 apartments per floor). Generally 1-2 of these elevators are working. More likely 1. If 3 are working, check and make sure hell didn't freeze over when you weren't looking. The fun part is that usually the freight elevator isn't working...so if people are moving in/out they have to use a normal elevator...which definitely takes us down to 1 elevator and increases wait time at least a hundred-fold. (Yes, we do take the stairs a good bit due to the elevator issues, but sometimes you can't or it's just not very feasible).
-Supers??? At times I wonder if they exist. Once we needed them to come to the apartment to fix something. They said they'd come in the evening....never showed. We talked to them or resident services each of the next few days...same response, same result. We ended up fixing it ourselves and didn't bother calling again. Also, it is their JOB to be in the mail room for ONE HALF HOUR each day. That's it. Every single time I've gone to get a package at the appointed time, they've been 5-15 minutes late. They also leave around 5 minutes early. How many bosses would put up with someone missing 2/3 of a work day?
-Garage. In general, I like the garage. Place to keep my car inside & out of the snow/rain. Of course, that's assuming that I can get my car IN the garage. Apparently they don't care to make sure the door openers mounted outside actually work. And they *really* don't care if you can't get in. I love that I pay to park in the garage but can't get in the garage. Nice.
-When we went to talk to the leasing people about getting a townhouse (that's a story in itself...turns out there's 2 types of townhouses here and the ones we thought were $899 are actually $1350), the lady didn't care about any of the problems we're having. Would have been nice if she at least pretended to care.
So....we've been looking into moving and think we've found a new place. None of the extras that we have here (though they have tons of picnic-y areas, are even closer to Lake Erie, have washer/dryer hook-ups & 2 bathrooms). They don't have the layout we like open right now (there was one open on Monday, but someone got it before we could get there on Tuesday), but we filled out a pre-app and the lady is looking for one (second floor - there's only 2 floors..and possibly a fireplace). I was floored to find out that the pet deposit is $300 PER CAT. Ugh. Plus pet rent of $15 per cat per month. At Pine ridge it was a $300 deposit and that's it. But I guess if you weigh all the hassles of Pine Ridge I'd rather pay that extra. The apartment costs less, having a garage costs less...so I guess it's worth it. We'll have to buy some furniture & we'll have the moving costs..which sucks since we're trying to save for the wedding/honeymoon.
The fun part is that Pine Ridge requires a SIXTY DAY notice if you intend to leave. We STILL have not gotten the letter telling us how much they're raising our rent...and 60 day notice means we have to give them written notice by April 30th/May 1st (lease is up June 30th). So thank you Pine Ridge for giving us maybe 7-10 days to make a final decision (though I'm 95% sure we're moving but still).
I'm tired of moving. And now I not only have work stress (SO busy...haven't been able to take vacation this year at all...and won't be able to until at least June/July due to the project I'm on and the timeline it has) and wedding stress, I'll have moving stress. yay.
