The map for our Pirate Reader is ready. It is based on a 1720 map by Emmanuel Bowen I found on Wikipedia with some reworking of coastlines where things got just too weird for modern eyes (e.g. the Bahamas and the Keys). Yesterday, we went to the Spiel games fair in Essen and have come back thoroughly happy with the experience. No small feat when you actually bring back almost half of your spending money for the convention. The RPG section did have some really fantastic offers this time. Well, what can I say? I'm just glad I'm finally done with university (except for the perks, of course). Didn't get quite the grade I was hoping for, but with eight topics spanning roughly 2500 years I guess a 2.0 is "good enough". Just wish my dad could have been here to know I've finally made it.

I just found out that Jean Giraud, better known as Möbius, died yesterday of cancer. His comics were a huge influence on the darker strain of Science Fiction. I was really fascinated by The Incal, but I didn't get to read much more of his oeuvre. Maybe I should have.
