ok... so after less than satisfactory results on monday, i added some hot water, some more dye and some vinegar to that bucket of dye and resoaked the wool for a while. It came out MARGINALLY darker, but still was too bright for my liking.

so...
dyeing isn't quite going to plan.
I used the method suggested by badylugz, but the wool didn't take up all the dye and so it isn't quite the colour i was aiming for and i also feel i don't want to pour the rest of the dye down the drain if there's any way i can still get it into the wool instead!
I do have extra dye powder, but yeah..
