dyeing take 2

Nov 25, 2006 00:08

ok... so after less than satisfactory results on monday, i added some hot water, some more dye and some vinegar to that bucket of dye and resoaked the wool for a while. It came out MARGINALLY darker, but still was too bright for my liking.

Back in the bucket :D

ready for the microwave.

hanging out to dry!

I've given two here, one with flash, one without. In both though, you can see that the shade is different (and the wool is stil wet!)

and outside in the sun the next day... much clearer definiti
so, after buying the biggest pot i could find ($17 ... bargain!!),  I dyed it one more time, this time over the stove! Unfortunately i was feeling so sick and snotty that i forgot to take a photo of the pot on the stove.
But the results (though not yet dry or viewed in sunlight) are MUCH more what i was looking for!!

BIG pot (19L) and a much more pleasing wool...

oh this makes me happier!

LOOK!!! It's almost the same shade!! it's not quite dry yet, so it will be a tad lighter methinks, but i'm much happier with this. It will also be a bit greener, due to running out of the 'Ice' dye!! lolNow i just have to hope that with all that treatment the wool hasn't shrunk TOO much! because if it has, i won't have enough for the cardi ANYWAY!
*sigh*
in which case I'll have to rip the project and either reknit it shorter (if i think the wool will stretch) or use it for something else entirely and just knit the cardi in an available colour. While i think i will dye again now i have 2 ways of doing it, i don't really want to dye in THAT amount again.
I still have a little bit of the kingfisher left though, so if i want to do some hot teal gloves or something ... XD
