Well, I will be leaving soon! The movers came this morning an hour ahead of schedule which threw me into a panic in order to throw on decent clothes before they walked in the door. We sectioned off an area which we called the "DMZ" where all of our luggage and items for our express shipment would go and then let the movers loose in the house. At one point we weren't paying attention to the packer in the kitchen and when I went to grab some peanut butter, I opened the cabinet to a face-full of nothing. I even did the cartoon double-take of closing the doors, pausing, and then opening them again just in case. Still nothing. This wouldn't be much of a problem as most of the stuff in there was nonperishable. Unfortunately, both Kevin and I remembered a small bag of bread in there. Well, we really didn't want the lovely "welcome home" gift of unpacking to a mold-infested box so we asked the mover to "find the bread". We found it after a few boxes to our relief. They were amazing packers - much more thorough than my last movers by far and the entire pack-out went from 8am until about 3:30pm. That may seem long, but the head packer told us a story of one Navy dentist who forced them to stay until 1:30am! I can't even imagine.
After everything was packed out, we headed into Yokosuka to do some last minute errands: booking a hotel room and picking up my medical record. Turns out I couldn't pick up my medical record as it was juuuuuust past 4pm, but we did reserve a hotel room. Phew! Now all that's left to do is pick up my medical record, exchange our Yen change for USD, cancel the cable and phone, and get Kevin checked off the ship. There is, however, one problem we've yet to solve and that's what to do with Sakai... We've exhausted our network of friends and colleagues and can't really bear to *gulp* flush him. We still have one more day to try and come up with something, otherwise we might have to resort to the previous option or setting up a "FREE" sign and leaving him in the lobby of our building :X
Oh, and did I mention that we're both flying home on Saturday? :D No? Well, we are. Kevin will be flying from Narita to Washington state. I'll be flying from Narita to Dallas, TX and then to Memphis, TN. My total travel hours will be almost 24. Godspeed.
