Healing and Pottery

Well, it's been about a week since the pain and shingles appeared and so far things are progressing as well as can be expected. I believe we caught it early enough because I think the medicine is really helping stop the spreading and to quicken the healing process. The patch is now very small and when I feel it, it already feels like there are little scabs (don't worry, Mom, I wash my hands immediately afterwards). I'm really relieved because I'm most likely going to be shingles-free by the time we're set to fly out. Now if only the nerve pain would hurry up and go away...

In other news, I had my last pottery class 2 Fridays ago and was a bit saddened by it. It's what I looked forward to the most every week. Even through the lows that the Navy has put me through, pottery has always been a kind of vacation from it all. A (mostly) quiet place where I could zone out and think about nothing but the wet clay running through my fingers and splattering on my shoes. So once I packed up my final haul, I asked if I could read him a note that I had written (with Kevin's help) in Japanese. I thanked him for teaching me pottery and that even though I'm still not very good, I'll continue practicing when I go home. I fumbled through a few parts, but he seemed to understand well enough. He even said "jotto matte" (wait a second) and brought out a bowl set he had made and presented it to me as a going away gift.

The whole haul, greatly saturated to bring out any kind of color. I do enjoy my little rabbit cups and my tiny teacup.

Here's his bowl set. Kind of like a warming set with a lid to keep your soups warm.

Finally a little hint of what's in bloom here in Japan. I hope this weekend I'll able to get out and take some more pictures of all the beautiful blossoms.
