Of course, it was easier in Los Angeles. Nobody knew who Billy was because nobody cared who Billy was, and it was a huge city. He could be one of a few million people. He'd learned since that there weren't all that many people with access to Bete Noire's network and had been kind of found out once already.
Still, he wasn't going to just give up on keeping the identity a secret after one or two minor hitches. And before that, he had to worry about clean clothes and oh god, redhead coming down the hall.
Billy ducked his head, getting intensely interested in his underwear. His underwear was on top of the pile and in full view, he flailed at the basket in an ( ... )

Billy? Or Barney?
She paused beside him, peering at his face a bit as he was rearranging his clothes. Too fidgety to be Barney. Should she ask him? But no, that hadn't worked well so far. Telling Ianto that she'd met him in another world had only resulted in him getting a little weirded out.
"Are you new here?" she asked instead. Smiled again and held out her hand. "I'm Bonnie. I don't think I've seen you around before."

"...yes. New. To the, uh..." Gesturing was out, with the basket in his hands, but he managed with a head-ish kind of gesture. "To this place. The hostel. And the, um, the city too really. Juuuust got here."
Did that sound defensive? Maybe it sounded a little defensive. Where he was from people didn't recognize him out of costume because...well, they just didn't. They usually just weren't paying that much attention to Billy or Dr. Horrible. But that would change someday, oh yes, that would...
He was monologuing. In his head.
"...hi Bonnie," he added lamely.

If she noticed the internal flailing or monologuing, she did a very good job of not showing it.
"Well, consider me your welcome wagon," she offered cheerfully. "Are you going to or from with the laundry? Do you need any help?"

And today, that meant investigating the library. Research was more of Wesley's thing but...he was...well, dead for the moment. She tried to ignore the nagging guilt in her stomach as she flipped through another magic book. He'd come back, right? How many people had told her death wasn't permanent here?
For the most part, she was trying to see what information she could find on sanctuary spells. And resouling. She was reaching for a book when she accidentally took one the other girl was trying to get.
"Sorry."

"Looks like it's been awhile since anyone took a look at these." She dropped her trashy novels onto the table beside the magical tome and turned to introduce herself to the other woman--
And then she blinked. "Wow," was what escaped. "You're like--super pretty." That was followed by a hurried "I'm not hitting on you or anything! Your face is just a really good face. And I mean, I don't like girls. Well, I like girls as friends to, you know, go shopping with or watch movies with or to gossip about and stuff, but not to like--"
There was no good way to finish that sentence.
"Bonnie," she finally blurted out and held out her hand. "I'm Bonnie, sorry."

At the compliments, as awkward as they were, Cordelia grinned. It was nice to hear, considering how utterly shitty life had been lately. She certainly hadn't been putting in her normal amount of preparing to look nice.
She laughed a little. "Relax. I don't like girls either, not like that anyways. Though one time I did think a friend of mine was hitting on me but it turned out she was just a vampire and wanted to eat me. So that was awkwardvilles, USA for a bit."
A pause.
"Cordelia."

"Most people are too busy fornicating or getting skunked to come to the library," she cheerfully replied, mostly just grateful she wasn't getting a funny look after all her babbling.
"Sorry your friend tried to eat you."

Although he did make sure to stop at the library and pick up more than a few books on law that were unfamiliar to him. He couldn't very well be a half-decent attorney if he didn't even know the laws of the land, right? On the other hand, he couldn't say with certainty that any, much less all, of the books had anything to do with law in Bete Noire, but he'd sort through them ( ... )

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she apologized as they came crashing down, even though she wasn't entirely certain it was her fault. Immediately, she knelt down on the floor to help the man gather them up. "Here, let me help you." She looked up at him and returned the smile.
As she gathered up the books, beginning to pile them up, she snuck a few glances at the titles. "Are you in trouble?" she asked, a teasing lilt to her voice. "Or just trying to figure out which laws you can get away with breaking?"
Reply
Besides, he was used to cramming days and nights of skimming through law texts. "Thanks," he added, "about the books. I should pay a little more attention to everything around me. I mean, what kind of lawyer would I be if I wasn't attentive to details? Details like...what laws this city even has. Or women in halls I'm about to stupidly run into. That kind of thing."

She glanced over him. "You don't look sleezy, anyway. But honestly, it'd probably be better for you if you were. People get arrested left and right in this city and I don't think many of them are innocent."

The atmosphere tonight was pretty dismal, and she was absently twirling her spoon in her cup of dark coffee (one sugar, no cream), counting minutes and sips, until a girl with hair so bright it was just close enough to appalling to be appealing, came in and caught her eye. She had a different air about her. Didn't seem local. Lilah stirred her drink again, slowly, and watched her from the corner of her eye.

She turned, casting a swift glance around the room. When her eyes landed on Lilah, she knew, somehow, that she'd been the one watching. That could either be friendly or creeptastic.
Bonnie chose to believe it was friendly.
With a smile, she raised her hand in a little greeting, waving her fingers. "Have we met?"
Reply
"I think I would remember." And she knows the other woman would. Lilah never

"Bonnie," she introduced herself, sitting across from the woman. "Hope you don't mind the company. Bored out of my mind and the diner kind of smells like feet."

Heading towards the rack of books on magic, she saw a pretty redhead already there. Giving her a slight smile, Christine started to peruse the selection.

"Druids that were, these things are huge," Bonnie said with a good natured groan. "Looking forward to the day that Bete Noire catalogues all these dusty old things onto some online database."

"But I wonder if the spells lose their potency if they're taken off the page and put into a computer."

She held out a hand to the blonde. "Bonnie McCullough."
