After Buffy woke up from her coma, Cordelia had started going out and about more, at least during the day. During the night she tried to avoid going out by herself, what with the threat of Angelus and all that. But during the day? She was getting herself better acquainted with the city, finally.

And today, that meant investigating the library. Research was more of Wesley's thing but...he was...well, dead for the moment. She tried to ignore the nagging guilt in her stomach as she flipped through another magic book. He'd come back, right? How many people had told her death wasn't permanent here?

For the most part, she was trying to see what information she could find on sanctuary spells. And resouling. She was reaching for a book when she accidentally took one the other girl was trying to get.

"Sorry."

Bonnie withdrew her hand. "Oh, no! You're fine, go ahead. I'm just browsing anyway." She reached for another book instead--a heavy, dusty tome--and dropped it onto a nearby table. As she did, a poof of dust came flying up at her. She coughed, stepping back.

"Looks like it's been awhile since anyone took a look at these." She dropped her trashy novels onto the table beside the magical tome and turned to introduce herself to the other woman--

And then she blinked. "Wow," was what escaped. "You're like--super pretty." That was followed by a hurried "I'm not hitting on you or anything! Your face is just a really good face. And I mean, I don't like girls. Well, I like girls as friends to, you know, go shopping with or watch movies with or to gossip about and stuff, but not to like--"

There was no good way to finish that sentence.

"Bonnie," she finally blurted out and held out her hand. "I'm Bonnie, sorry."

"Doesn't it? Guessing the library doesn't see a lot of visitors here." She in fact had only known of it's existence due to talking to Buffy about it. With everything that seemed to go in this place she could see how reading wouldn't be a pasttime people would have a lot of time for.

At the compliments, as awkward as they were, Cordelia grinned. It was nice to hear, considering how utterly shitty life had been lately. She certainly hadn't been putting in her normal amount of preparing to look nice.

She laughed a little. "Relax. I don't like girls either, not like that anyways. Though one time I did think a friend of mine was hitting on me but it turned out she was just a vampire and wanted to eat me. So that was awkwardvilles, USA for a bit."

A pause.

"Cordelia."

A few months ago, Bonnie would have frozen at the mention of vampires. Now she was beginning to realize that everyone in Bete Noire seemed to know they existed, or had experienced an encounter. Anyway, no one ever seemed to figure out she was one herself. Having a pulse and going out during the day probably helped a lot with that.

"Most people are too busy fornicating or getting skunked to come to the library," she cheerfully replied, mostly just grateful she wasn't getting a funny look after all her babbling.

"Sorry your friend tried to eat you."

The daylight thing would definitely help through Cordelia off the track. Vampires in her world could not do that, except with the Gem of Amara and Angel had destroyed that years ago. The pulse thing was a big no too.

Babbling was something Cordelia was used to, it actually reminded her of Fred, just a little. She wrinkled her nose at the comment. "Eww. I keep forgetting how creepy this place is and then someone says something like that to remind me" Not that...she's really forgotten at all.

"It happens. I mean, I guess for some people that would be weird? But kind of used to stuff like that in my life by now."

She tilted her head curiously at that last comment.

"Used to what? Lesbians or vampires?"

Bonnie was sort of used to both at this point.

"Vampires more than lesbians." She blinked for a moment, realizing how that must have sounded. "Not that I have anything against lesbians, a girl I went to high school with is a lesbian and that's awesome, more power to her you know? Just back home, I worked for a vampire, so yeah, kind of hard to avoid the major exposure there."

Well, that caught her attention.

"You worked for a vampire?" Bonnie could tell just by smelling the other woman that she wasn't one, but she couldn't exactly go and say that. "You're not one, are you?"

She peered at Cordelia curiously.

"Was he evil? Are you evil? Some serial killer who likes to attack people with books? Should I be concerned for my life right now?"

Cordelia shook her head furiously at that. "No, thank god. I mean, I would so not be able to rock the pale look, you know? And the whole blood drinking thing? Eww much?"

Unfortunately, Cordelia had no idea that she was talking to a vampire herself. In her world, they couldn't do the daywalking bit.

"Also? So not with the evil here." A frown. "Well, Angel is but that's only because we ended up with his soulless psycho counterpart. Not fun for anyone."

"Yeah, ew," Bonnie enthusiastically agreed. Mostly because the whole situation was sort of wildly and inappropriately hilarious. "Gross."

She looked from the books to Cordelia. "So--a witch then?"

"Nope. I went to school with one back in Sunnydale but I leave the magic mumbo jumbo to the professionals, ie, not me for the most part."

She paused for a moment, debating if she admit the next part or not.

"I'm just vision girl, mostly."

Oh, Bonnie was not unfamiliar with vision herself. But she just nodded, seeming nonplussed.

"Where's Sunnydale?"

"Southern California, a couple of hours outside of Los Angeles."

Which was where she resided now. She hadn't actually been back to Sunnydale in years.

"Oh, I went to Los Angeles once!" Bonnie cut in cheerfully. It had been back when Damon had left, when she'd gone looking for him.

"Heard it was a hot bed for vampire activity, though. Which is weird. Why would vampires be hanging out in the sunlight?"

"It kind of is. Well, hotspot for demonic activity in general really." At the sunshine question, she merely shrugged her shoulders. "It gets pretty seedy in some areas at night though. And it seems like everyone wants to go where the stars are, even the supernatural. Can't blame them on that though. Not really."

Bonnie looked at Cordelia thoughtfully. Pretty young woman living in LA, even mentioning the stars. She was tempted to ask if she was an actress, but if Cordelia were actually a lawyer or a doctor or something, she'd probably get offended.

"What do you do?" she asked instead.
