I’ve been wanting to do a complete rewatch of Firefly for a while now. Sure, I’ve watched random episodes here and there, but I’ve only watched it straight through twice: once when it aired and once when I bought the DVDs. I rewatched the first episode, “Serenity”, the other night and was both impressed and underwhelmed. ( You're gonna come with us. )

I never wanted a comic continuation of Angel. In fact, if I may quote myself from two years ago, “I’m sort of annoyed that there’s a comic. It’s a way better ending to have them not make it out alive.” When I finished Buffy, it made sense to keep going with the story. I read Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Volume 6 Retreat in May of last year; I’m not sure why I didn’t write up a review of it then. I remember enjoying it. Interesting that Amy Acker makes the main credits as of “Maternal Instinct” but Elodie Bloucher is demoted to guest star. For a moment I wondered if that meant Fred would be dying but then I remembered this isn’t Joss Whedon’s show. I loved all of Fred’s badass scenes, like blowing up the helicopter out the window. It’s so refreshing to see a *real* pregnant belly in scenes like Sydney’s ultrasound during “…1…”. I found myself wondering if that was actual footage of Violet in utero or if they used stock footage of some sort. Sydney working with Renee was also believable to me. I like to try to give premiere episodes a little bit of a pass, since I know that usually the show runners are still working out kinks and the actors and writers are still getting a feel for the characters.
