Quetzie nagged me into putting
Attack of the Aztec Mummy in the Netflix queue. He’s been on a kick since we got back from the Austin roadtrip. Why, you ask?
It all started with
Mexic Arte. Thanks to a tip from
la_azteca, I folded a visit to this hip, little museum into the trip. Their Aztec and Mayan exhibit featured interesting bits and pieces but you know; all the good stuff is in Mexico.
One other note: This is the headquarters for the official Day of the Dead celebration in Austin [Nov.1]. One employee remarked that another group -celebrating the 25th anniversary of MJ's Thriller- is also planning to participate. Fitting, considering MJ's career is dead.
Where to Get Lucky in Austin
Quetzie took HermanoDiablo and I down to his -and now my- favorite bar in Austin,
Casino El Camino. Due to the Aztec theme of the joint and especially the back patio, it reminds him of home.
Happy Hour is 4-7, Mon-Fri, domestic $2,imports $2.25. Quetzie and I hit the Carta Blanca while one of Austin's best jukeboxes blasted out a little bit of everything from B-52s to Bad Brains and some 80's cheese metal. No industrial or super heavy/stoner/death metal but they did have the traditional substitute -Patsy Cline.
100% lean, 3/4 pound Angus burgers is another part of the draw at Casino and particularily for me, the Amarillo Burger, which is topped with roasted serrano chilies and pepper jack cheese. This was easily, one of the best burgers I've had in my life. Though I do feel they were a bit pinche' with the serranos -next time I'll have them double it.
