My boss just sent me a few photographs he took yesterday of me in costume. One of them is this shot of me driving the 1929 REO, a luxury car that cost four times as much as the 1928 Ford Model A: $1600 new in a time when the average man was making less than $2 a day. So it begins. I now have four days remaining at Fort Edmonton Park. :( I'm not exaggerating when I say I learned new things each and every day. I made so many amazing friends and learned to be so much more confident in myself and my knowledge. (Perhaps I've come into the Gift of Gab I acquired when I kissed the Blarney Stone a few years back?)

Okay, guys, so this is what I did at work today:

-Spent the morning in Mellon Farm, which is considered an "A" location at Fort Edmonton Park: AKA there should (in theory) be someone in there most of the time. Hey guys, long time, no update!

The good news:

-I for sure have a place to live in Ottawa! \o/ Huge load of stress off of my back.

-I've been driving up a storm on 1920s street. (Though sometimes I think I've gotten lazy and decide to drive the Model A Ford or use the old bicycle instead of walking one minute down the street, but whatevs!)

This morning, for the first hour or so I was at work, I got behind the wheel of a Ford Model A and practiced driving. \o/

I get paid to drive historical vehicles, guys! And I'm going to do it again tomorrow! \o/

You want to know something really neat about working on 1920s street at Fort Edmonton Park? The Alberta Government Telephone Office.

It's a reconstruction of a telephone exchange from St. Paul, so its switchboards are a bit small compared to what Edmonton would have had in the 1920s. In fact, Edmonton would have had a mostly automated system by ( Read more... )

So this morning, I drove into Edmonton to drop of some paperwork that will soon allow me to do some pretty neat-o things. I'll be getting a special driver's licence that allows me to operate historical vehicles within the city of Edmonton. What does that mean?
