Ryan is in AZ with his Dad who is dealing with liver cancer, non-functioning kidneys and a myriad of other complications.
Tonight I called him and put him on speaker phone so the kids could talk with him too. They both looked longingly at the phone when they heard his voice.
Serenity said "I love you" to him. Actually, she said, "Daddy?!" "Iyuvu" It was quite clear to all of us what she was saying. Very sweet! I am pretty sure this is the first time she has said I love you. Great timing little one!
A few nights ago, Thursday I think, she woke up because Leo, our cat, was purring in her ear and pawing at her to get her to pet him. She sat up and mewed at him and petted his face for about 15 minutes. It was very cute. I am pretty sure she thought she was the only one who was awake. I treasure sweet moments like that.
Julian has been doing very well in school and with making friends. We found out there are several other kindergartners who live nearby. They all seem to like Julian and have been requesting him for play dates. It has been very nice. We have had them over here as well, mostly at different times. ;0)
He won an award at school two weeks ago for "most improved". The teacher told me that he had an assessment at the beginning of the school year and another that week and had really improved. I think he had learned how to respond to her assessment questions. He has learned how to read several words now and is much better at using his phonics skills to sound out words he is unsure of, though he still does not realize that he can, for all intents and purposes, read. It is so neat to be here to watch him grow and really take ownership of his learning process. Last Monday he brought his homework home and immediately pulled it out to complete it right away. I was very impressed. I hope he is able to keep up with this habit. It will serve him well. I am encouraging it by offering him a clean space and time to complete it. I love him so much!
Yah, this Mom thing, it is a pretty good gig.
Oh, Julian went with my Mom yesterday and got a new haircut. She told him to choose a style he liked. He and his first cousin were together getting haircuts. They came home with faux hawks. Very cute!
