Russian Easter was celebrated in old Shanghai since the late 19th century. When ships with the Russian crews were present in the Shanghai port during the Orthodox Easter period, these were known as “dangerous days” because of the frequent brawls and subsequent casualties. This recent writeup (in Chinese) about the Russian Orthodox St. Nicholas Church on Rue Corneille (now a bookstore at 7 Gaolan Road 皋兰路7号), uses some images from PastVu and Magazeta, and tells the story of the Ashanti Dome restaurant located in the building in the 2000s.
