Wing-On Department Store drawings (1916)
“Shanghai is growing faster than St. Louis, Missouri!” - marveled the journalist in the September 1916 issue of The Far Eastern Review. Imperial Russian Consulate (1916)
This beautifully precise architectural drawing shows the Imperial Russian Consulate, on Whangpoo Road, designed by the German architect Hans Emil Lieb. Built between October 1914 and November 1916, it opened with pomp on the 1st of January, 1917 - just months before the declining empire's Asian outreach was undercut by the two revolutions back home ( Read more... )
