But mommy . . .

In looking for something else, I found my Secrets of the Kingdom CD which is a kids story/song cd from when I was a kid (well, I had a tape when I was a kid that I LOVED, but lost, so when it came out in cd when I was a teenager (or 20-something) mom got me the cd LOL). It's kind of a parable thing where some kids are playing & meet Silversong (never quite figured out what he represented, an angel maybe?) who tells them all about the Kingdom (Heaven) & the King (Jesus), then takes them to meet the King and on the way they learn about a bunch of basic Biblical concepts (faith, do unto the least of these, etc). Anyway . . . we were listening to it in the car & I wasn't thinking much about it, but pretty early in the CD there's a song that is a whole long list of "Who" questions, who paints wings on butterflies, who . . . . and at the end of the song the little girls says "The King does" and Silversong tells her she's right. When that happened, Ashlyn got this totally confused look on her face & said "But mommy, God & Jesus do those things!" I'm sure it was MORE confusing since our SS lessons these last couple weeks have focused on worshiping God, not earthly kings (story of the fiery furnace last week, Daniel & the Lions Den this week, and actually even the week before, about Daniel & his friends asking for healthy food instead of the King's food, had an underlying message about doing what God wants when others think you shouldn't).  So, that would further add to the confusion since we were suddenly talking about a king. I explained that in this story the King IS Jesus, and as we continued to listen, she figured out on her own that the Kingdom was Heaven, so it was all good. But I thought it was rather observant of her to figure it out all on her own, even if the terminology confused her :)

Lexie liked the CD enough to choose to come inside & finish listening to it in here rather than go outside & play w/ Daddy & Ashlyn when we got home, so guess it's a hit :) Then again, anything with singing is likely to be a hit with her LOL.

And speaking of things confusing to 4 yr olds, my parents are currently on vacation in Arizona, Utah, etc. They told the girls that they were going to the desert, & the girls just can't wrap their mind around the fact that there can be desert that is inhabitable, their picture of the desert comes from Magic Schoolbus & Maggie & the Ferocious Beast and in both of those cases, the desert wasn't a place anyone lived, so they just can't quite grasp it. I've lost track of how many times I've explained that Mama & Papa are staying in hotels, not tents. That there are restaurants there for them to eat at, that they're driving, etc etc etc
