Came back from Speed Racer this evening. It's the new Wachovsky brothers movie. I've never seen the tv series itself so I was pretty confused at the beginning, but the story picks up nicely and in the end is quite enjoyable. The style reminded me of a mixture of Dick Tracy and Tron, but more modern. I wonder if they can make a good fun racer out of this movie, it looked like it would make a nice game :)
There's currently a new drama series out for Zettai Kareshi. As far as I know the first Yuu Watase series to make it into a J-drama. I still recall waiting for this to be turned into an anime, but it's actually a story that should work good as a drama. There's been some changes of course, everyone is older (why is Gaku over 40? Why?), the setting is a company that makes sweets, Soushi is and acts like his younger brother while Masaki has been turned into Soushi character-wise. I have no idea why, really. But Soushi is cute, so I forgive them. Naito is... hm... not as charming as his manga self. It will be more difficult to fall for him, since Soushi is so cute from the start. I wish Gaku was a bit more like in the manga... he's my favourite character in it. Riiko can have Naito and Soushi, I want Gaku :)
I actually just re-read the manga these past two days and it was way better than I recalled. There's plenty of filler chapters, but generally it's a sound and very sweet story. It made me laugh out more than just a few times (I probably understood more jokes than four years ago too) and the end made me cry just as hard. It reminded me of that short story that I read somewhere, about a robot nurse. The children grow up and move out of the house, they have their own children, they grow old and when they return to their old home, she's there waiting for them. It went something like this. I wonder if Watase read it. It made me cry too.
I probably should re-read Ayashi no Ceres now. It's been ages and I couldn't understand even half of the techno babble it had back then. Natsukashii na.
Anyway, this made me realize that it's quite possible to enjoy something that you've read before again years later. I mean, I've been re-reading books since I was a kid, but I've rarely ever done that for manga. I actually got back into HanaDan, but then I had to stop because I only had up to vol 12 or 13 and then only the last ones. I think that re-reading something once it's finished really has it's merrit.
It's late, I should get some sleep.
