13. The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss: Most people probably have seen the movie and I recall quite enjoying it as a kid. It's been only recently that I came across the book and it's quite an enjoyable read. As far as ship-wrecking stories go the main difference is obviously that it's a family that ends up on a deserted island, not a lone man or many men (women rarely ship-wreck it seems). The story spans over 15 years and not only tells how they made their own place on the island, but also how the children grow up. It doesn't lack adventures either. My only "claim" would be that everyone is just too perfect, even though their father claims them to have "faults" :) Definitly worth reading if you like classics. Four out of five.
