Non-spoilery: I really enjoyed it.

I was expecting tons of reaction posts when I came back from the cinema yesterday, but then tumblr was down and then it wasn't and there's still nothing. As I understand it the movie isn't even out yet in most places, so I should actually feel privileged to have seen it already (twice!).

In short: It's at its best when Bilbo, Gandalf and Gollum are on the screen. The actors are simply terrific. 48fps is a giant fail. Great for a theater piece maybe (it feels like you're in a theater in the close scenes) or for fully animated movies (looks like a great video game), but it's not something for a magical world like Middle Earth ( Read more... )

I saw it today. I thought I'd like it, the IMDB rating is stellar with 8.2, but in the end it did not touch me. It's a good movie, but somehow, even though it's about eternal love, it's somehow lacking for me. I just came out of the movie theater and this is such an amazing film. It's a coming of age story, and one might say it's typical, but somehow it isn't. I loved the characters in it. I loved the music. I loved how it made me laugh out load and have tears running down my cheeks ( Read more... )

I admit the movie is actually quite good. And I don't mean as an X-Men movie, but as a movie. It's more a character piece than a superhero movie and gave tons of insight into the characters. Just came out of the cinema and I'm a bit underwhelmed. That's why I hate it when we get releases so late. The hype builds up and then it can't meet expectations.
