I'm not sure what you're trying to say, Anon ( ... )

Fabulous response. I have to admit that when I read Anon's comment the only that that popped into my mind was "Ah, they didn't catch that yes, this is Harry's Second Year." Your answer is much better than mine.

Thank you very much!

It occurred to me later that the anon comment may have been an innocent but clumsy attempt at asking what year the story was taking place in, but I've said "Second Year AU" at least twice, so that seems a bit much. ;-)

I always enjoy getting notifications about new works by you. I can count on a fabulous Luna, and a rather ignorant Ron, and a great relationship for Harry, whether it be with Hermione, or Ginny, or Luna, or all three and then some.

Of course, my penchant for H/G over all makes me more attentive to the Ginny in your works, and in this one I'm thinking: trust Ron to inhibit Ginny's gaining friends, good that Harry wishes he could get to know her better, yeay for Ginny elbowing Ron for being stupid (was Harry's thought about using a spoon to take out a troll in any way an allusion to Ron's emotional depth?), and hopefully Ginny's seeing what kind of a friend Harry can be rather than just focusing on the fact that he's holding Hermione.

And I certainly haven't read very many, if at all, where the Grangers disown Hermione--interesting take on that relationship.

Oh, and Luna's trunk! The Luggage! Or am I misremembering its official name?

Thanks! I was having a bit of fun with that one.

I don't think Luna's trunk is actually the Luggage, as in being an aggressively protective chest made of sapient pearwood, but I reckon that either A) Sir Terry Pratchett has Wizarding connections and saw a trunk much like Luna's (or even the same one, if it's a hand-me-down) sometime before writing The Colour of Magic (1983), or B) somebody in Luna's extended family or her father's circle of friends has read Pratchett, made a Luggage (or at least a trunk with similar properties), and then thought said trunk would make a perfect gift for Luna to take to Hogwarts ( ... )

Thank you so much!

: trust Ron to inhibit Ginny's gaining friends

That's always how I've seen Harry and Ginny not getting to know each other at all during his time at the Burrow in CoS. It can't have been only that she was so painfully shy.

was Harry's thought about using a spoon to take out a troll in any way an allusion to Ron's emotional depth?

Heh. Interesting thought. I don't think it was conscious, but that could've been somewhere in the back of his mind.

hopefully Ginny's seeing what kind of a friend Harry can be rather than just focusing on the fact that he's holding Hermione.

I do think she's seeing that at some level already. I'm not sure how much diary!Tom is influencing her yet, but I'd like to think that seeing Harry as someone who loves a girl and who obviously has time for other people as well, rather than as her big brother's friend who ignores her because he's busy being her big brother's friend, might help her in some way.

And I certainly haven't read very many, if at all, where the Grangers disown Hermione-- ( ... )
