I'm not sure what you're trying to say, Anon.

If this is a flame, you need to put in a lot of work on your style, because it's a pretty effing pathetic excuse for a flame. I mean, I'm quivering in my boots here and going off to bawl and rethink my entire authorial career cos you actually pointed out to me that Second Year has the Chamber of Secrets business in.

Not.

If it's a genuine question, you might notice that this is only the first part of three. Did you bother to read to the end? I can't help but think you didn't, Anon, since you're commenting on the first part. LJ, in its infinite wisdom, won't let me post an entire 22,200 word fic in one go, so I had to split it up like this.

In any case, Anon, you might remember that the Chamber of Secrets didn't get its first mention until Hallowe'en. Every scene here takes place before Hallowe'en. Reading all three parts might have helped you realise that. Or maybe not, I don't know how dense you actually are.

And here's a tip. If you have a genuine question, you don't just say "Where's x?" with x representing whatever thing you're wondering about. You say something like "Nice fic. I was wondering, by the way, what about x?"

You're getting free entertainment, so the least you can do is say "thank you."

Fabulous response. I have to admit that when I read Anon's comment the only that that popped into my mind was "Ah, they didn't catch that yes, this is Harry's Second Year." Your answer is much better than mine.

Thank you very much!

It occurred to me later that the anon comment may have been an innocent but clumsy attempt at asking what year the story was taking place in, but I've said "Second Year AU" at least twice, so that seems a bit much. ;-)

I'm not sure how the comment was meant, but my initial response to the comment was to note they had spotted the error in the chapter.

The first hugs he remembered had been from Hermione in the Chamber of Secrets,

When it should have been a reference to the chamber under the 3rd floor corridor.

Nice start to the story. I'm not completely convinced by Hermionie being willing to make that decision at the start of 2nd year, by 4th definitely but 2nd feels on the early side, though I'm willing to accept it for the story.

Thank you, Anon number two. I'd missed that.

So, Anon number one has a good eye, but is an idiot who doesn't understand that they need to actually quote things in order to get their point across. An idiot with a good eye is still an idiot.

Thank you! Have you read the rest of it?

If you have, you'll know now that it wasn't as much a decision on either Harry or Hermione's part as it was the result of promises and statements they made in a desperate situation without understanding the implications of those promises and statements.

The thing that you may not know is that Livejournal won't allow me to post more than about seven thousand words at a time. If I had any choice in the matter, I'd post the entire 22,000 word fic in one go, just as I did on Archive of Our Own. These aren't chapters, they're sections, and understanding them is just as much dependent on reading the whole thing as understanding individual pages would be dependent on reading the others if the fic were printed out.
