What is this weather? It's POURING RAIN and I've had to turn on the overhead light, even with my curtains all the way open. Of course this happens the day after I give my garden a thorough watering.

As a consequence of staying up too late last night, I spent this afternoon braindead and kind of staring at walls. When I had enough of that, I decided it was time to do some gardening, so I donned gloves, gathered my supplies (radio, plant food, seedlings, shovel, chicken manure) and set out to prepare beds for tomatoes. After my last post, I promptly got distracted by Outside, and spent the next few hours grubbing about in the dirt and listening to the radio. Yay, sunshine and plants and niceness! Followed by sneezing as I work through the dust. I'm really glad I don't have actual allergies, that would be annoying.

I need a better "geeking out about plants" icon.I planted things! And made dirt! :D I am inordinately excited by the fact that not only did I compost things, but it actually worked. Today I resisted the urge to buy myself a tiny little seiju elm to bonsai. Instead I bought some wild ginger (CA native, not actually ginger at all) in the hope that I can get it to grow in the deep shade wasteland under the citrus trees. In California, Spring is springing. Down here in Santa Clara, the almond trees have already blossomed (and been rained on) and the plums are almost passed as well. Everywhere you drive in Sonoma county, the white and pink of escaped plums and pears interrupt the dark evergreens along the roadsides.
