1. Gassed up my car yesterday. Suspect I will need to take out a loan to do it the next time. My 2000 Saturn wagon took 10.35 gallons (so it wasn't quite as empty as I'd thought) and that cost me $40.85. Aaaack!
2. My hair was really long (for me) and shaggy and I really wanted to get it cut before we visit Mr. A's relatives this weekend. I stopped seeing my really good, but unfortunately expensive, hair stylist last fall because she was just too expensive and I couldn't justify that money any more. So my last few hair cuts have been at cheapo places. I had one done at Great Clips in late October and it was okay, not great or horrible. I had another one in late January at Cost Cutters and that was mostly okay, except the guy left one lock of hair, in front of my left ear, about an inch longer than the one on the right side, and that annoyed me. So on Monday, instead of returning to Cost Cutters, I went back to the same Great Clips, but I had a different stylist this time.
My kiddo had this woman, Deb, a couple times and raved about her. So I let Deb cut my hair, asking her only to take about 2 inches off all over AND to make sure the extra long lock of hair was even with the other one. I'd washed my hair that morning so she didn't wash it (that would have cost $3 more) and she merely wet it down with water from a spray bottle. Then she didn't bother to use a pick to comb out the tangles (as a somewhat curly-haired person, my hair tangles easily), merely used a barber comb on it. Then she cut it and she seemed to do a lot of holding up of mirror-image locks to make sure they were even. And maybe they were. But when I got out of the chair, I sensed that something was wrong. Couldn't quite figure it out but I thought my still-damp and not styled (that would have cost more) hair looked sort of lopsided, much bigger on the right side than the left. Granted, I part my hair on the left, so I ended up with more hair to the right anyway. I thought I was imagining things so I figured I would wait until I washed it again, on Wednesday. It looked okay on Wednesday, but on Thursday, once I had washed it once and slept on it, well... I knew then that she'd butchered my hair. Maybe she didn't think she was butchering it -- maybe she intended it to be MUCH heavier to the right side, but damn, that was NOT what I wanted. When I push my hand through the left side, it feels like she cut out CHUNKS of hair going around my ear!!! Gah. *flails* I realize "It's only hair" but as most of you have probably figured out, my hair is the one thing I'm really vain about. I don't want to get it cut shorter (SOMEWHERE ELSE) to try to fix it, because I don't like my hair really short and I don't want to spend another year-plus growing it out again. So I guess I'll have to wait until at least the end of August to get it cut again, to give it a chance to grow out where it was butchered.
Moral of this story? You get what you pay for, and if you pay only $14 (plus a small tip) you get a crap hair cut. I guess I could go up to $28-30, plus tip, but not more. I need to find someone new. Gah. I hate hate hate trying to find a new hairstylist. Why must Isela be so expensive?? *calls the Wambulance*
