For those just tuning in, here are my challenges to pimp crossovers/alternate realities. Give me any two fandoms and I will write a crossover (see
here) or see the alternate reality challenge
here.
Am still completely at loss for time, but thought it only fair to give progress update on requests, WIPs and crack ideas from my Hell Bunnies. So largely fanfictiony entry here.
List of Finished Challenges
Alternate Reality Challenge Part 1 for
mscongeniality:
Keeping Balance [Witch Hunter Robin] Man always travels along precipices. His truest obligation is to keep his balance. -Pope John Paul II (PG)
Alternate Reality Challenge Part 2 for
animefreak42:
Behold the Flowing Years [Lord of the Rings] Eowyn does not regret. (PG)
Alternate Reality Challenge Part 3 for
numisma:
The Unbearable Lightness of Fleeing [Rurouni Kenshin] Kenshin's good at every kind of running. Misao's good at being Misao. Poor Kenshin. (PG)
Crossover Challenge Part 7 for
coyotegoth:
As Played by Masters [Harry Potter X Doctor Who (Fourth)] Humour an old man, Doctor. What is there to fear from a game of lightning chess? (PG. Vague spoilers for HBP.)
Crossover Challenge Part 8 for
midoriko_sama:
How Hatake Kakashi Met a Mysterious and Violent End [Inuyasha X Naruto] Bad puppy. Bad. (PG)
Crossover Challenge Part 9 for
quirkyslayer:
Learning Its Nature [Harry Potter X Veronica Mars] Lilies of the field toil not, nor do they spin. But do they learn? Sybill Trelawney. Lilly Kane. Sybill might actually be a True Seer. Too bad it's not going to make any difference. (PG)
Crossover Challenge Part 10 for
dawnsama:
Dogs of War [Inuyasha X Pride and Prejudice] In retaliation for his role in Ramsgate, Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam purchase George Wickham a place in not the militia, but the active regiments. A man with Wickham's tastes let loose in the confusion and horror of the continental battles? Ah well, justice comes in many forms… (PG-13/R for implications of stat rape and childhood prostitution.)
1. Progress on Requests
Only two of the crossovers left and three ARs. Just need a little more spare time…
a) Ouran High School Host Club - "What if Haruhi had never broken the vase?" For
iceasetoamaze This one gave me an incredible amount of trouble, because although I really wanted to do this, I had read an absolute gorgeous one shot that did exactly that. I have now figured a way around it, mainly by twisting the request just a little- aka do you really think a school like Ouran would have let someone looking like Haruhi wander around on her first day without being intercepted? Hopefully, with a little more time I should be able to finish this off.
b) Ouran High School Host Club - "What if Haruhi made her gender known right off the bat to the host club?" For
dawnsama -Blushes- This one was merely delayed because I need to re-read the first chapter of Ouran to incorporate as much original dialogue as possible. It's completely sketched out, features Kyouya as a force more powerful than chaos or fate and just needs time to be finished.
c) Twelfth Night- "What if Viola (in her disguise of Cesario) fell in love with Olivia instead of Orsino?" For
prpl_pen This was one of my favourite requests and the plot change came to me almost immediately- Viola as Cesario actually receiving the ring from Olivia instead of Sebastian. Unfortunately, I just discovered, to my horror, that I can no longer intrinsically 'beat' iambic pentameter in my head. I'm awfully afraid to get this one done I'm going to have to revert to Stoppard Shakespeare. -Pouts-
d) LOTR- "What if Frodo really died when Shelob stung him?" For
amara_anon This one… I had this all set in my head (Sam taking up the ring and continuing without the Frodo rescue), but something's blocking putting it all together. Hopefully resolved with a little more time.
e) Inuyasha/Samurai Deeper Kyo
I know nothing about Samurai Deeper Kyo. I need to research this before I can even think of a plausible cross. Anyone got any background suggestions for this other than wikipedia?
f) Nancy Drew/Anything for the Utterly Awesome Angharad
Hee. I'm afraid I've pushed this one to the end 'cause she's pretty patient. And it means I can think up fun crosses. Other than all those Canon Hardy Boys ones I used to read….
g) A second cross for Midoriko-sama.
Because as much fun as it was, it was probably a bit short :)
2. Progress on WIPs
a) 'Among Wolves' - Need to finalize final chapter and submit before new season starts and am hopelessly Jossed.
b) 'The Butterfly Effect'- Now that I've finally gotten over the sickness of losing so much of last few chapters, the story has actually gotten to the point where it scares me. I'm so paranoid I'm going to forget clues to the ending that it's preventing me from moving forward. Probably nobody except me cares about this, but when it comes to the big reveal I want to be able to point and say 'See! There were hints that this was what was going to happen! Plz2b putting away of the assault rifles kthnx.' On the plus side, strangely enough, I only have to add three sentences to the original epilogue to turn this in to an actual Furuba AR now that the manga's finished. I find this incredibly amusing.
3. Things I Really, Really Want To Do But Am Not Allowed To. Yet.
Do you ever have those monstrous story ideas? You know, huge stories that nag and nag at you, even though you know you will likely never have the time or energy to do them justice.
So I have three stories bouncing around my head, all of them having sat there for over a year and one having been in my mind for more years than I'd care to admit (in fact, I mentioned it in a post a few years ago). I'm not allowed to start posting a new chapter fic until I post the rest of the requests, the last chapter of 'Among Wolves' and, probably not until I post at least two chapters of 'Butterfly', but as a reward to myself I'm going to allow myself to work on one of the three following ideas. All off them are alternate realities/timeline branchs of a sort and two of them are in fandoms I don't write in, but they've all been eating my brain for a long time and I suspect I can make them go away if I write them out. None of them are romances, although I'm half-tempted to make a Justin Finch-Fletchley/Hermione Granger/Neville Longbottom (or Hermione/Hannah femmeslash. I'm not picky) thing for the third because I can. All of them already have insanely detailed skeleton outlines from awhile back that I recovered, so I'm itching to tackle pieces of any of them. Anybody has any preferences or comments on any of the three I'd love to hear them :)
a) Bringing up Weasel (Naruto General/Drama)
Numbers don't lie. Even when they're as troublesome as these ones. No matter how many times Nara Shikamaru and Haruno Sakura go over the projections, the result is the same. Without the firepower of the Uchiha clan and at least fifty percent of the shinobi lost in the Kyuubi Tragedy, Konoha is Dead. Something that's supported by the fact that they're making these predictions huddled in the rubble of the former offices of the former Hokage. Pluses- they have Uzumaki Naruto, Hyuuga Neji, Sarutobi Konohamaru and a potential solution requiring the input of all of them. Minuses- they have infinitely little time to enact a forbidden, incredibly dangerous jutsu that will enable one lucky nin with perfect chakra control to go on a one-way mission to the past. Of course the 'lucky nin' will be dead when she gets there, but all she needs to do is arrive with the scrolls that a past Hokage can pick off her dead body and thwart the problem at its source. Relatively simple? Not when Uzumaki Naruto's involved.
Now Sakura's twenty-three years in the past and suddenly forced to justify both the desperate plans and the half-assed pop-psych contained in the scrolls to the Yellow Flash and an unamused Hokage. Turns out that her half-formed alternatives to killing a budding socio/psychopath at birth have convinced the Sandaime that there's only one good solution to all of Konoha's future problems. Sakura's new S-class mission? Bringing up Uchiha Itachi.
b) The Time that is Given (Lord of the Rings General/Drama)
"I wish none of this had ever happened."
"So do all who live to face such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
- Gandalf to Frodo, in the Mines of Moria, J.R.R. Tolkien "Lord of the Rings"
In a fit of anger, Grima Wormtongue chooses to align himself earlier with Saruman and consequently acts precipitously to solidify his hold over Theoden of Rohan. In the aftermath of his actions, Eomer is dead, Eowyn has vanished and Theodred has fled not only the city but the country, knowing that his survival and that of his kingdom depend on his distance from Edoras and the re-forging of abandoned ties with the White City.
Ten years after the tragedy of the Riders, Boromir of Gondor rides to Rivendell with his retinue including his shield-brother, Theodred son of Theoden and Theodred's mysterious former ward and current second-in-command, Dernhelm. When Boromir offers his sword to the Quest of the Ring, the intricacy of politics demand that Theodred (who as sole surviving heir cannot offer himself) must offer an additional, equivalent representative for the Riders. Dernhelm thus becomes a most reluctantly offered member of the quest and his long-hidden secrets may ultimately determine the balance of the knife-edge they walk…
c) You Say You Want a Revolution (Harry Potter General)
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
- Beatles, "Revolution"
Hermione Granger doesn’t talk about what happened in that troll-infested bathroom in first year before Neville Longbottom came to find her. But then, until now, nobody's known that *that* was the event that started everything. And she'd probably have preferred to keep it that way if she wasn't being forced to elaborate on everything by her questioner.
Well they asked for it- SIAMESE (Granger/Finch-Fletchley's Society for the Integration and Advancement of Muggleborns with Equality Stressed Explicitly), the toad wars, the Great Hogwarts Electrification, the pan-House Intellectual Mafia and the reason why the statue of Gregory the Smarmy has a broom shoved up his arse. The-Boy-Who-Lived may have defeated Voldemort as a baby, but the wizarding world has been helpless against a more insidious rebellion that will forever change its relationship with both its first-generation wizards and the non-magical world. Ever wondered what Hermione could have done if she hadn't been Sidekick Number Two? Knitted hats are nothing. Poor wizarding world.
