Last night I went to see The Gang's All Here, a Busby Berkeley musical from 1943, featuring Carmen Miranda. The story was flimsier than usual, about a soldier who falls in love with a chorus girl despite being promised to the girl next door (in tony Westchester). I liked this film much more than I expected to. While I agree with everyone who says it wouldn't make much sense to people who haven't read the books, millions of people have read them, and should enjoy even the throwaway references to scenes that have been compressed or elided to make the film work. We went to see this at the IMAX last night. It was visually stunning, especially on the super big screen. And I'm very glad that I read all the spoilers first, so I knew what to look for and could follow everything better. I went to a massive Korean spa and sweated under a gold pyramid, among other things. This place reminded me of the Madonna Inn, if it were also an Asian bath house. This is a fantastic vid: Buffy vs. Edward: Twilight Remixed. Yup, all the butt-kickin' you wish Bella would do, and good reminder of everything we loved about Buffy from the beginning.

We just got back from seeing Coraline. Hmmmmm.

The film is beautiful. The two worlds were wonderfully realized, and the 3D effects were gorgeous. The music was haunting and atmospheric. And the plot? What plot? ( Cut for spoilers )
